the Moleskin shell that Mimouille references above :http://store.moleskine.com/en/shell-small-2253.html#249=7 (The UK site) shows slightly different dimensions than the US site:  http://shop.moleskine.com/en-us/bags-cases/shells-cases/shell-small-black.  They are close, so it may be simply i.d. vs. o.d., but may be that they change the products for different markets, the pages sure as heck look different!

OK, I'll stop posting for a while now.

Thanks to everybody for making this a uselfu, cooperative, informative thread to read and participate in.

I bought mine in the shop in Shanghai, so I could test it first...

Mimouille, do you mind measuring the moleskine small shell for us? The us amazon site has so many size variations for the small shell and I wish to know which one would be the right measurement. Thanks

Not so easy to measure inside but I will try. But even with small variations the 901 fits VERY easily in the small...

Yup 5ish hours for me also. From empty to full. Definitely not 8 or 9. ANd my green led does remain on for the whole duration but it is quite dim actually and from a distance/angle it may not seems to be on, esp in day time.

You cannot adapt unbalanced to balanced, only the other way round. And no, you don't need it in trrs to use the balanced amp with a SE cable. Just switch to normal mode and you are good.

Do you mean a balanced TRRS to unbalanced TRS adapter? (Those are available at Head-Direct and cable makers, but only with a short cable. If you want an integrated plug, then it's DIY - AFAIK.)

If you mean what you write, then the short story is that there is no point in making such an adapter since you will still have unbalanced earphones/headphones that way. Using a TRS to TRRS adapter might even give the HM-901 some problems since the L- and R- pins are shorted in the TRS plug, but I don't know.

kkcc, having spent more time with the balanced re600 out of the hm901, it's clear to me these two were tuned together. With most of my other phones I prefer the single-ended output of the hm901, but with the re600 it's not even close. The sound is energetic, full, detailed and yet airy at the same time. It has that mid centric signature I love, and while falling behind my shures for the bass, it has typical hifiman bass- focusing on extension rather than impact. It's also not a fatiguing sound, so I can see why some may not be wowwed by it, but really it does so many things right!

Methinks you should give this combination another shot smily_headphones1.gif

Lol I do love my re600 with 901.  My earlier point is that is really isn't an IEM for everyone coz not many own the 901+balance board, and its tuning is not to please the average consumer or main stream pop music.  I rate it just behind the TG334 and 1plus2 so that's really very lofty praise.  But just that I'm never a fanboy who would preach his favorites to everyone as these things are all subjective.  If anything I try to illustrate what I DON'T LIKE about my gears so it can be useful to others as there are so much hype most of the times on forums.....

Or maybe you're thinking about another member?

Cheers!

Hi Mimouille

Just want to say thank you for your recommendation on the Moleskine Shell case. I purchased a Medium size version which can fit both 901 and my iem perfectly:

While I haven't heard the IEMs kkcc mentions, it sounds like the RE-600 is in high praise. I totally agree with you jelt2359, it's a match made in heaven (901+bal amp+RE-600) that is transparent yet full of life.

Good point. It sounds awesome with my mainstream music, though! I also love it's form factor- it's ridiculous how small these things are.

Maybe I'll try the fitears and tralucents one day. Hard to find audition pairs though. And I've been in this hobby long enough that when you find what you want it's time to look for new music instead and come back in a few months to see the new stuff smily_headphones1.gif

I am so close to selling the AK120 to fund for this but I keep thinking perhaps with CIEM AK120 might sound better? I guess once AK200 is released I can make my mind up for now I will just follow this thread closely.
