E10 Crackling at 24/96

Thread Starter

When i listen to flac's with my Fiio E10 set to 24 bit/96k Hz, there is a very audible crackling sound that persist for maybe the first 10-15 secs of a song (and goes away after that even when I rewind the song back to the beginning). However, this crackling goes away when I downgrade is to 24 bit/ 48K hz.

Anyone know why this? How much sound quality am I losing by moving down to 48Khz?

Although this only seems to happen when I play the flacs using VLC. The crackling at 24/96 appears to go away when I use Foobar.

As a further complication, it appears that all flac's that i have are 16/44.1. Is it bad if I am setting my E10 DAC at 24/96? Does it upsample it from its native bitrate or something?

Thanks,

Set it to what most of your library is encoded at. Does the crackling disappear if you set it to 16/44?
