That's why I'd like to try out the Future Sonic Custom IEM. The only custom IEM using dynamic driver that I know...

I loved it as well.

I compared them briefly to my JH13s.

Bass is prominent, but I never found it bloated, even compared to my JH13s.

Agreed on mids. They were actually the first thing that caught my attention, not the bass (might be my song, too).

Treble for me is not hot at all (compared to the 13s, at least).

Overall balance is quite good, beyond what I expected, partly because I'm under the impression that the IE line is very bass heavy.

Speed wise it's quite good for a dynamic pair, but there's a gap between these and the 13s.

Loved the build of the wires, but the cinch is way too high for wearing them over-the-ear.

Are u the one who went to collect his ESW11? If u are, then I certainly met u.

Still in love. LOL...

At least in terms of sound quality.

I just find it kind of pointless to compare them with the ie8s or other company's high end offering given the price tag.

If it does perform on custom iem's level it might be worth getting considering higher resale value, and no time taken for mould and refittings.

I have an UM Miracle and the IE800 certainly compares very well to it in terms of sound quality.

But like what James have mentioned, it's not the sound quality that ultimate lets IE800 down.

I was running around Hong Kong today (not a city to close on Christmas day) and the IE800 was still out of stock everywhere. Then I went to AV2000 and they had one in a sealed box. The price was good compared to what I was being quoted from other HK retailers.

I jumped at it. Joined the club.

Damn you, James! You really know how to criticize headphones so that I want them. ;-)

I have a perfect fit out if the box. More to follow.

if you did own the EX-1000 please try to compare it against that. I am in market for a good dynamic IEM, I have cash for the EX-1000, if the IE800 is worth it I can always save.

Must have been the wind noise graphic that pushed you over the edge. rolleyes.gif

i guess the better pick in our country is a k3003

Welcome to the club!

Thanks! The truth is James, I have been planning to buy these headphones from the day that they were announced. I have wanted a high-end dynamic vented IEM for some time. Here is a picture that I put together in Photoshop way back in May when we were discussing the IE800's Giger-like design on here. It is one of my favorite Windows 7 desktop backgrounds. Now I finally own the headphones that I have been staring at!

1000

Unfortunately I have not heard the EX-1000.The Sony Store in HK did not have a display model.

Thanks. It will be a few days before I post any impressions. I will say that I am having fun exploring these interesting headphones. So far, with a few caveats / usage notes, they look to be a good purchase and to be keepers.

I can empathize with you, since it has been pretty much the same for me.

Great Photoshop job! Hope you don't mind me saying though, my idea of Giger-like blue is more like this:

1000

Is the EX1000 out of production? I can't find it on any of Sony's product websites.

I have IE 80s and love the sound of dynamic drivers as opposed to BAs. A good  listen to the XB4As and Klipsch X10s was enough to convince me.

James, that is indeed Gigeresque bleak.  :-)

Definitely on my shopping list for next year...damn you head-fi...biggrin.gif

i just got myself a pair of these a couple of days ago and am listening with flacs on a cowon and amped with a meier corda stepdance 2.

After all the negative comments i wasnt expecting much but I am absolutely loving them. Bass is big but so is everything else and I dont find it over powering. They are so much more better than my iIe80's and they will have to be sold now as theres no way I will use them anymore.

I dont think I have ever had so much enjoyment from my music since I got into this hobby. I am a relatively experienced listener with owning grado's, hd650's, hd800's, ie 80's and the IE800's have given me my biggest wow moment ever. I realise its early days and there is a honeymoon period with most devices but the signs for a happy long term relationship are good.

I did notice however that when my amp when flat the ie800's were not nearly as vibrant and I wont be listening directly from the cowon in future.

Also I had no problem with fitting, i just popped them in and they sealed good and as they are very light they didnt move and stayed in place most of the time. I can see why the cable is so light as any heavier and they would pull down on the ear pieces.

For a single dynamic driver in such a small package they really are remarkable.

In a month or so I will post any further impressions if they change substantially. I recommend them highly and if your in the market for a good pair of universals they are very worthy of an audition.

Back to enjoying my music :)
