Sennheiser IE800 IEM's - Page 25

"Here in the UK they are available for in store collection only, why? It seems Sennheiser is enforcing this."

 

 

 

 

maybe to enforce their policy of no discounting

 

Sennheiser unfortunately dont like their dealers doing that and come up with methods to put themselves in the loop so they can monitor sales

 

In New Zealand it was impossible to buy the HD800's without providing ID and a receipt for full price to Sennheiser. Not sure how they get away with it, maybe because its high end audio and no body complains. A company selling whiteware tried to do the same thing and were hauled over the coals by the regulatory authorities so in principle it is illegal

Very interesting - might be worth emailing the ACCC here in Australia to see what they think of this. I can understand where Sennheiser is coming from in terms of not wanting to devalue their products, and I am sure that their lawyers have don their homework to make sure they can get away wit this. What apple seem to do is to provide their products to retailers at a price that is so close to the RRP that they would have to be insane to try and discount.

Clearly whatever Sennhesier is trying to do over here is not working, as in the US HD800's are available at prices well under the RRP.

I actually emailed Sennheiser directly to enquire as I went to two shops offering cash and therefore looking to get maybe %10 off - the dealers had no issues but werent allowed to do it. I received no reply from sennheiser (of course).

 

I am keen to listen to the IE800's and if they blow me away I would like to buy and if i encounter the same situation I will look at contacting the commerce commission here in NZ. But to be honest I will probably not be bothered with the hassle and just buy them in Bangkok at Xmas as I go there every year.

Yeah that sounds very fishy and illegal as you said. Shame on them if they are doing this. It's very greedy and distasteful.

So you ordered online? Or did you have to buy in store? Or are you picking them up in store :P. Anyways looking forward to your impressions especially against your IE8, AKG3003 and Fit 334 (if you got that one :P).

I'll buy them if they have the sound-stage of the ie8, clarity and detail of the gr10 and extension of the triple-fi. I think my wallet is safe.

The IE8's forward projection and illusion of space was partly achieved by distant (and somewhat veiled) sounding mids. The IE80 had slightly clearer and less distant sounding mids, and, as a result, slightly reduced soundstage.

Supposing the IE800 were to have the GR10's clarity and detail in the mids, that would certainly come at the cost of forward projection and soundstage size.

 

Some parameters in IEMs are pretty much diametrically opposed in my experience, and you just can't have everything at once. I'm hoping for the IE800 to be Senn's best possible compromise to date, no more, no less.

Not so sure about not liked by many. If you look in the owners list the IE8 is one of the top owned IEMs by members here on headfi.
