Sennheiser IE800 IEM's - Page 143

Well, I've just purchased a set.

Looking to replace and upgrade my washing machined and dried SoundMagic PL50's and to complement my B&W P7 cans when out and about and listening in bed.

Really wasn't sure what to get as so many people have opinions on their fave headphones. As an indecisive, it's a mind field isn't it!!?! These are certainly not universally rated as "the best" but given many rave about them and their sound it would seem is just to my taste, I have to try these. Sadly no shop remotely close has these to demo.

I like the PL50's but highs are (now were) a touch harsh and they definitely lacked bass. Accurate, maybe, but for my tastes the bass was a bit lacklustre and with the hard highs, they certainly were not a play all day sound.

So will see. Should be hear by the end of the week.

Be interesting to hear them with my Fiio Mount Blanc amp and iPod Classic line out connection. The amp does nothing for the PL50's and any other in-ears, though work brilliantly with the P7's depending on the mastering of the CD.

It's scary to spend so much on in-ears, but reading on how huge these sound I'm very intrigued to see if £600 pounds worth of IEM's sound as good as some say.

These are certainly great sounding iems .. it has it's nuances but after a month, I'm still sitting in bed till 4am listening to them.

I just love the air and separation it gives to instruments around the singer. I find it quite addictive to listen to as sound fly around outside my head.

Cable noise was one thing that annoyed me but the using a shirt clip from my H3 has worked wonders while walking around. Can't believe they didn't even give you a shirt clip .. and the connector is just in such a strange position.

One thing I found today was that I can't use them while I'm eating ... weird but true. It just creates too much noise almost like constant cable noise. I was just trying to watch a video while having lunch and it was just too noisy. I had to change to my H3 for eating. Funny I never noticed this in any other iems I've had.

Please someone give us the best eq settings for IE800 to shine more and more! I want it for my macbook pro and ip5s.

On the iPhone 5s just plug in and play, no need to change eq with an IE800, you can't better perfection even if you hope for it 😊

EQ can add distortion.   Avoid if possible.

I know the only bad thing about eq is the issue of adding distortion. But I found an app called Soundfocus. I advice you all to take a look at the app if you haven't come across yet. It supports Spotify as well including eq and also you can tune the unique frequency to avoid unclear sound.

The IE800 definitely does scale fantastically...

Right now plugged into a Hugo, Wow smily_headphones1.gif

Whoever says these don't need to be amped hasn't heard them at anywhere near their full potential... fact.

When I had a set of ie800, I felt I got the best sound from an amp or a powerful source.

I have the same combo. I thought the ie800 sounded perfect with my AK120, but I was suprised how much better they sounded with the Hugo. They are not much far behind my TH900 in SQ...

Interesting!

Just been running through all of my full sized cans and all disappoint me when compared to the IE800s (love, for example the high end / treble definition these produce), will put the TH900 on my watch list...

Thanks smily_headphones1.gif

For me the ie800 sunds like iem version of the TH900. (I cant understand why someone call the the iem of HD800...) But from the Hugo everything is a bit enhanced with TH900. Bigger soundstage, better separation, tighter bass. But not by much. I like having the option to switch between the two. Now I'm going to see if I can hack my ie800 to fit with my ear molded ear tips....

Guys, anyone using/used dx50 with ie800? Do you suggest this combo?

I have.  It isn't that it pairs poorly, but i prefer the ie800s with ak products - ak100 or ak240.   I find the sound on the dx50 murkier.   The highs and lows have distinct personalities on ak products.   Amazing treble presentation along with very good bass.  In addition, the dx50 sound tends to change with firmware updates.

The primary advantage of the dx50 (other than price) is that it provides plenty of power with its higher voltage amp.  Sometimes on the ak100 i max out or come close to maxing out the volume.   ie800 does seem to benefit from higher power, probably why it also sounds better amped too.  Despite the power issue, i still prefer the sound of these iems on the ak100 - but i can see why someone might go with the dx50 instead.

Have they fixed the treble from last time? Cymbals tend to sound thin like the sound of crushing a piece of paper..

Hey Duncan is the increase in sq big enough to justify purchasing Hugo  as opposed to driving ie800 from  x5 alone?A lot are riding the Hugo wave but there  are others who are a bit dissapointed saying it's not worth the money.I'm debating if i should combine it with dx90 but ie800 already sound very good especially after the lenghty burn in.
