Bass with clarity HELP!!!!!

Hello headfi!!! First time poster, long time thread creeper. Anyways, I'm in the market for a nice clean sounding headphone with good bass extension (keep in mind that I'm somewhat of a bass head). I currently own a pair of Ath m50's and a pair of Sony xb500's, and while the xb's have the bass I desire, they are somewhat lacking in the upper (high) range of sounds. Now the ath m50's are a great overall headphone but for me the hi's are a little harsh and while the bass is there is seems pretty empty (Doesn't fulfill my basshead needs) if that makes any sense... So right now I'm torn between the ath 700mk2's or the ultrasone dj1's. I want a headphone that has nice punchy bass, yet also has more clarity than the xb500's with highs that are a little less harsh than the ath m50's. Please help me decide between the 2. I mainly listen to hip hop, DnB, Dubstep, House, etc...

Under $200...

YAY

*caps totally needed* GET THE XB700 it has the bass you like with the clarity of the ATH's without the harshness all for $80 ;3, even better you can Mod the XB Series [pretty easily] to increase Bass response [which means DEEPER more powerful bass] and improve the clarity of the highs, the mod though Is easier when you have the bigger version

but I think the XB700 will make you a very happy listener!

Here's a link to the XB700 mod

Enjoy and join the XB700 [Modded] fan club

Thanks!!! I was leaning more towards the dj1's or mk2's though. I have the xb500's but like i said they are pretty muddy, but they have that PUNCH that I've been after. I heard the mk2's where like the ath m50's but with more bass and a slightly duller high end. Can anyone verify this? I'll look into the xb700's as well though.

I think the dj1s or hifi 580s are better (they are the same thing)

Oh man this is gonna be a tough decision. Maybe i should just flip a coin eh? Sonic Boom what makes you think the dj1's would be a better choice? have you listened to both of them? If so could you give me a mini comparison of both?

Here this a FR graph for the Ultrasones and the Xb700's

graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=1193&graphID[]=1973

The Xb700's have more Bass no question but clarity is an issue with them and the Ultrasone HFI-580 might be better there, not to mention Mid's are pretty much Dead with the Xb700 [as you can see] and it's noticable when you start listening to Vocal tracks... >.>

The Xb700 is $80 and you can give it a Nice Bass Boost with a Fiio E6[$30] or an E11[$60] not to mention the Fiio amps add a wee bit of clarity, where as the Ultrasone are like $150+ on amazon

Look into the Xb700 more I think if you get  it you'll be pleased :3... although it's a very genre restrictive head phone so if you do get them... when you start listening to everything out side of Drum & Bass/DubStep & Liquid Funk you might want something more balanced xD

I saw a graph on the m50's that had more of a bass response than the 580's wow. so now its down to the xb700's or the ath 700mks's. what about the xb1000's??? I haven't heard much on those.

Xb1000 isn't in stock right now and I can't really say <.< from what I hear the XB1000 is much more refined and alot deeper than the 700 with the bass as well as with Clarity, so vocals are probably better, so it's got more powerful Natural bass, and unless your used to picking up on those lower frequencies you might not enjoy it, plus I don't think it has the punch your looking for! I've heard that the bass is described as very Smooth and powerful, not so much Punchy ;3

Also I don't know much about the ATH 700mks >.>

I've owned both the 700mk2 and the hfi580. They both have similar bass qualities, but the 700mk2 has more of it. I felt that the 700mk2's bass really overshadowed the upper registers, so I prefer the HFI580 between the two.

If you want a more balanced sound with strong bass, I'd suggest the Ultrasones.

If you want skull-shaking bass, I'd suggest the pro700mk2. (note: you may need an amp to achieve aforementioned skull-shaking)

Amp-wise, I'd suggest a cMoy from JDSLabs with an AD8066ARZ opamp-- especially with the pro700mk2 because it will brighten the signature a little to make it sound more resolving. http://www.jdslabs.com/item.php?fetchitem=cMoyBB203

I think the hifi 580/dj1 have deep bass and still have good mids and highs, and I dont know were you herd they have less bass than m50s (good headphones also) because the ultrasones are  one of the more recommended headphones too bass heads.

What audio source do you use mostly? Phone? Computer? iPod? $20mp3playerfromwalmart? Instead of purchasing headphones, you should consider buying an amp to see if it improves your M50. smily_headphones1.gif
