You don't know what you don't know.
You don't know what you don't know.

I'm comparing them to the Grado RS-2, Denon D2000, and Beyerdynamic DT1350, all great headphones and well I got the need...the need for an upgrade. So I said why the hell not and go further than I have before. I will be posting a full write up once I have more time with these buggers. As for the bass...I'm retarded, I had been using my speakers as I didn't want to miss the gentle taps of the UPS driver on my door and had turned the bass completely down....now that it's turned back up they do have bass, it's still very light. I hope the Lyr makes a difference. I'm going to be running comparison on the Little dot Versus the Lyr for all headphones, and soundcard versus DAC, as I have noticed some noise with these headphones running them out of my AMP as I have to run the amp so loud.
Edit1:
I am pleased by the fact that how ever analytical they sound, they don't show every glaring flaw in my poorly encoded or mastered music.
Edit2:
Also anyone that says these get a decent sound out of an mp3 player or straight out of a computer are high as a kite. Running them straight out of my sound card I could barley get them to an audible level at full volume. Not to mention everything sounded like rocks being ground.
Edit:3
So...these officially sound good with Hard style. Not to the D2000 bass head affect, but very fun sounding.
Edit4:
okay, I'm working on a write up right now and will start a new thread with an in depth review and comparison of all components available too me at the time.
That'd be great. I'm very interested to see how MKII handles a planar magnetic since I've the HE-400 and MKII, but was considering a Lyr down the line.
I dont listen to the he500 out of the laptop jack. Im using a NFB12. I was just saying that when I plug it into my laptop jack I dont have to turn up the volume too high at all to get sound
Would it be mean if I gave impressions on WhiteCrow's HE-500's out of my amp before he has a chance to?
They were pretty sweet headphones. Don't want to go too in-depth because I'm lazy, but I enjoyed them immensely.
Moreover, I was impressed by how well my CD900ST's measured up, considering the huge price difference.

HAHAHA feel free, like I said, I will pass judgment on these beauty's when the Lyr get's here. As for the Little Dot 1+ it really does bring the bass out of these bad boys.
I was really surprised by the amount of bass they had. Almost as much as my DT770 Pro's.
It also takes some getting used to a large sound stage. Even the K601's couldn't get a very large sound stage out of my amp. Really makes me wondering if it wasn't supplying them enough power...
Hahaha making you rethink your sale...also Tom Waits, oh god....yes.
Grado I.......
I've always kind of regretted getting rid of the K601's, since they added a particular howl to electric guitars that I've never heard in another headphone, but ultimately my amp wasn't good enough for them. I figure when I have money to buy a better amp, I'll buy the K601's again.
Damn, I cant wait for a better amp. These are just killer with tom waits, I can't wait to see what the Lyr will add to them. Still working on my Write up right now.
Oh god....I just looked behind me.....NO ONE!!!!!! SOUNDSTAGE!!!!!!!!!!
Unboxing Video up! Check OP post.
looking forward to your impression of the he500 with the lyr.
I have a lyr coming in within the next couple of days myself and hoping it doesn't disappoint
They sure do change their product presentation a lot. Not too long ago HE-500 was still shipping with regular box and no pleather pads as stock. I really need to get that carrying case now, it looks nice. Only 20-30 bucks too.
I could beat a pack of wilder beasts to death with the case, it's pretty great.
Looking forward to your impressions as well. I keep hearing good things about the new Hifiman orthos, which makes me want to pick up another one for a bedside rig.
My NFB-10 is going back to Audio GD for repairs and a TE8022/remote control upgrade, so I'll be without my HE-6 for a few weeks. Well, I could theoretically try throwing on a 4-pin to 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and running them out of my XM6, but that probably result in rage and an amp being chucked out the window.
Are you referring to the nylon/fake-ballistic case? It is very, very pedestrian.
