HE-500 Review and Shoot out. - Page 40

LugBug1 thank you for looking out for me. So with that media player, and I'm referring to the Pioneer Elite one, it's not going to pose a problem even if there is a DAC inside of it? And I can do a WASAPI on that player?

the Bifrost will bypass the pioneed DAC, WASAPI is a program for computers.

I was planning to mod them for aesthetic and comfort reasons.

Thinking about Indian Rosewood and LCD-2 leather headbands.

Something like these for the cups.

His post is confusing. What about the Bifrost bypassing the DAC on my soundcard though? He said set your media player to WASAPI, which is a computer program. Not sure what he means.

Yea. The Bifrost will bypass your soundcard. WASAPI allows you to manage your audio data.

Bit perfect playback, bit depth, sample rate, etc. And allows for automatic sampling rate switching.

You know what WASAPI is, you have played with both foobar and Winamp.

does the he-500 come with spare velour pads in the package?? or is it only offered by a few sites??(if so then which are they)... and can anyone tell me exactly what the difference would be powering them with an asgard and a lyr in terms of bass/mids/highs slam, soundstage and detail/instrument seperation... i have heard some prefer asgard's tonality(i want know to why exactly as it can save me plenty of money)... i want to know the best possible amp and dac combo for he500 in about 600$... an odac/lyr combo or bifrost/asgard combo or odac/asgard combo look the best to me(i choose odac as it almost matches bifrost at half the price)....

The HE-500's do come with spare velours with them. I had the lyr with the HE-500 for a time. bass slam is definitely there so is the clarity in the mids. This changes when you tube roll. You can also try the new $99 dac/amp that schiit just announced.

Best bide our time with new releases, it is never wise to be early adopters unless you get a huge discount or something else that offsets the risk of getting hit with teething issues. I learned it the hard way with HE400 redface.gif

The Compass-2 seem to be a really great option for an all-in-one solution. I don't know why, I always recommend it even though I never heard it... It seem to be well priced, well built with all the feature you can ask for this price (no remote, not balanced but who cares!).

I might give it a shot when I have $600 too many :p

i am also looking into compass2 and nfb11.32... actually i prefer them... if i somehow couldn't get them from their site then i would use other combos...

It's kind of generous for Hifiman to provide the alternative pads with the already bargain-priced HE500s, so thanks to Fang.

I really have to consider the HE500s Hifiman's flagship phone, because the HE6's need for a high-powered amp makes them a special-needs headphone.

Quick question, what is recommended to check on the impedance of the drivers? I've been reading that sometimes the Ohms can be much higher than what Dr. Fang says (+/- 25%). Just curious what device I would need to test them properly once I receive them.
