HE-500 Review and Shoot out. - Page 38

After viewing some Youtube videos from throughout the past year or so, I see the HE-500s with 2 styles of box (1 rectangular, 1 is a rounded carry type, with a handle of sorts), and 2 types of cables, a silver braided one, and a beefier, black sheathed one.  Does anyone know what a "new" unit should come with?

Mine came in the rectangular box with the silver braided cable (which would seem subject to microphonics).  I ordered mine new from Crutchfield because of their lifetime warranty and 60 day free return period and was just wondering how long this has been sitting in their stock.....

Thanks .... Mine came with all of those except a rectangular box was substituted for the carrying case.  I'll see if I can have them ship me the carrying case.

Must add.. I've also read of other peeps receiving the box instead of the carry case recently when I think of it. It's maybe a new thing? However I'm sure they will sort it if you would prefer the carrying case, as the customer service is very good. Just email them.

Thats weird..i got mine first week of november and it got the small rounded case as i said a couple of posts back....but i bought it from a german reseller..maybe the resellers themselves can choose which box they want with their orders?
But anyway..both boxes are rubbish! U cant use them on the road as there is no pace fr the cables attached to the phones..u have to disconnect them..who came up with that? I now use my carying case that was delivered with my beyers mmx300..in there u can put the headphone in with the cable connected! Simple and easy..and cheap...why did hifiman made a carying case in which u have to disconnect the cables before putting them in case..with the result ur connectors can can get faulty by connecting-disconnection many times..really. Was it so hard to make a carying bag in which the cables could stay connected mad.gif

Yes it's pretty annoying. if i'm not mistaken there's a online store that you can order your own customized carrying case for headphones, i saw it someone posting it on other thread, but i forget which thread though frown.gif

I guess people complained that the travel cases weren't luxurious enough.

I mentioned this before, but I would give up my Senn HD800s before I would part with my HE-500s, and I don't consider the HD600s  anywhere near the quality (natural tonality, spatial capability) of the HE500s.

I just use the pleathers pads and see no reason to fuss with the velours unless I get curious.

Of course there is a reason to try the velours. What if even better sound is just a pad change away? wink.gif

What if someone were to tell you that pleather->velour has a bigger sonic improvement than sinking $1000 into amps?
