Hi, currently i have a DT880 600 ohm and a MS1i, i love them both i love the treble on the DT and i love the mids on the MS1i, i don't have an amp at the moment but i will get it soon, so if get the HE500 i'll be running it from my Dacport LX which have a pretty good synergy with the DT, i was wondering if the HE500 can provide it both the DT treble and the MS1i mids?, and can my Dacport LX drive the HE500?

Thanks

If you like treble with detail and sparkle, and an airy, open sound in general, you probably won't like the HE-500.

I see, that is too bad i've eyeing the he500 for this couple of weeks because i've read that the he500 is like hybrid between the DT880 and HD650

DT880 Owners: Yes, I know you love the Beyer sound. DT880 is a great headphone, I'll admit that. But if you want the "Super DT880", I strongly suggest upgrading to the HE-4. It is simply the closest headphone I can think of that resembles the DT880, except it's on a higher scale. I swear they have the exact same sound signature, but the HE-4 simply does everything better. So, if you love your DT880, and you are thinking about upgrading, make the HE-4 your first stop and you won't regret it.

HD650 Owners: I know, I know. You absolutely adore that liquid midrange, and incredibly smooth sound. Not to mention, it's quite balanced and has a non-fatiguing sound. Well, just so you know, the "Ultra HD650" is right around the corner. As with the DT880 and HE-4, the HD650 and the HE-500 also hold the closest resemblance I can think of. But, there is a difference between the HE-500 and HD650, a major one. Besides the fact that every inch of the sound has been improved and refined, the HE-500 has a great deal of energy and enthusiasm; something the HD650 always lacked. It is an ortho after all. But you finally can experience a smooth sound that also includes the excitement and involvement of a treble oriented headphone. Not to mention, the midrange is unbelievable on the HE-500, and easily surpasses the HD650. Let's just say the HE-500 is a hybrid between the DT880 and H650, taking the signature strengths from both and merging them into one headphone; while improving upon it at the same time.

I think the HE-500 is more like an upgraded HD650 - closer to HD650 than a DT880/HD650 hybrid IMO.  I think the HE-5LE is more like a hybrid between DT880 and HD650 - retains a lot of the treble energy of the DT880 and adds some fullness, but not as lush, laid back, or full/rich as HD650.

I would say more people seem to feel that the HE-500 is a step-up from the HE-5LE - more refined, smooth, balanced.  But there are some (check out HE-5LE thread) that think they're sidesteps to each other - just different sound signatures, with some actually preferring the HE-5LE.  I tend to think they're peers myself.

Read what pataburd has to say.  I have the HE-500 now and are awaiting the HE-5LEs this week.  (I heard the HE-5LE are being discontinued)

I would say also say the HE-500s are a step up from the 650s.  I'm going to enjoy comparing the HE-5LE to the HE-500s.

Ok my HE500 have arrived and it's been an hour since i put on my head and start to throw many genre of music in to it start from pop to metal (i never liked classical music), to my ear's the HE500 have the treble and high just like my dt880/600 ohm, but the mids on my dt880/600 ohm is far from the HE500 which HE500 have sweeter mids with more forward vocal, the bass is pretty the same with my dt880 in terms of quantity and pace, keep in mind that my HE500 is about 1-2 hour old so my statement will definitly change due to the break in proses, nevertheless i loved the HE500

Congrats! Yeah they really open up over time, mine sounded quite dull and congested to begin with but after about 20 hrs or so they start to liven up. 50 hrs and they sound wonderful!
