I suppose it can be had in any Hifi store? It doesn't cost much, does it? How do you use it? (I suppose I can just RTFM )

hifi stores might have it, otherwise, try one of those electronics stores that sell parts and cables and such.

Caig

This is the best stuff ever! I use the R5 cleaner followed by the Pro Gold.
Check the site, they used to send out small samples of thier products if you ask.
Expensive stuff, but it's well worth it.

I second the Caig products. I use several of the incarnations of DeOxIt and ProGold. You can purchase them online at Audio Advisor, Music Direct and Parts Express. Parts Express generally has the best prices, but not always. In fact, [shameless plug] I clean the contacts, inputs and outputs on my preamp (that I am selling here) every six months with ProGold and every year with DeOxIt followed by ProGold.

You can get contact cleaners at your local NAPA (automotives) store too.

Yeah, I cleaned my old old old Melos SHA-1's innards and jacks with deoxit and progold and it made a huge difference. They sell a sample pack for $10 that is more than enough for a headphone system.

Shelf Life of Caig products

I thought I read somewhere that Caig products are only supposed to last 6 months in storage, and then start to loss their potency. Don't want to spread myths, but I read something along those lines in the cryptic instructions Caig posts on their site.

This page might be helpful.

Look in the electrical section of Home Depot. Big spray cans, 2 different types, made by CRC. Good stuff and great, rapid dry, low residue, cleaner/degreaser for lots of things.

I take it this cleaner also works for headphones contacts, like the Senn's. Which leads me to ask, when the intermittant problem occurs with the Sennheisers how often is it from the cable dying or from the contacts needing a good cleaning? I'm expecting a pair of 580's soon

How come I haven't had this problem? I bought mine retail directly from local store btw if that might explain anything, then again, I am using Clou 212 Red Jaspis cables.
