Just looked at my drivers the are pure white knew I liked the sound I am happy to know that I have the rev2
I know Fang is standing up for the product but didn't anyone listen to them before they were shipped good cuts serv bad quality control

No wonder you were complaining that those of us who got actual rev3 HE400s are just hearing ghosts, heheh.

No problem :) the treble seems way less sharp and the bass is out of this world. The response is so quick. Infected Mushroom is ridiculous on them now. I'm actually looking forward to hearing the new revision.

Ha! I was going to mention before if you like Infected Mushroom, you would love them on the 400's, but obviously they need power to shine, and you just experienced it (mess with the 30-60hz EQ which they responde very well too for some mind blowing bass). If you love the 400's after you get the fixed model, buy the velour pads. It pleases me however that a proper amp was enough to make you change your mind about the 400's, I thought you might if you gave them justice :D

Pretty much how I feel about them. The HE400 doesn't sound nearly as good on the E17 as the NFB5. The E17 and the HE400 don't match up well, IMHO. It loves the NFB5 though.

I already have the velour pads ;) put 'em on after listening to the pleather pads for 5 minutes. Made a world of difference. Lyr + HE400 + Velour pads = kinda win.

Converting vegetarians.  That song has some wicked low bass in the beginning and a great tactile feeling that pulsates from ear to ear.

I haven't truly heard this before now, and that's easily my favorite album by them. I'm only listening on my HD600s but it's absolutely incredible. I am in a trance.

Q) How do I know if my HE-400s are the type that need to be replaced?

A) Good version has a grayish/white plastic support while the version we want to replace, it is yellow. Remove the ear pad and open the grill. If the plastic support is yellow, it should be replaced. If it is grayish/white, you are good to go.

 

 

Q) If I bought my HE-400s in the past 30 days, what if they are the older version? How can I tell if they need to be replaced?

A) The times mentioned in the announcement refer to HiFiMAN manufacturing. It is possible that the defective versions appeared slightly more than 30 days ago (though we don’t think so) while some HE-400’s sold in the past 30 days might be previous versions and are fine. Simple way to know for certain is to remove the ear pad and open the grill. If the plastic support is yellow, it should be replaced. If it is grayish/white, you are good to go.

 

 

Q) I checked and the plastic support is white. Should I send them back anyway just to be sure?

A) No, it is definitely the right version.  

 

 

Q) I am outside the U.S. Is it practical for me to send back my HE-400s? Wouldn’t it just be easier and cheaper to send me a new set?

A) When you write to us at customerservice@head-direct.com supply proof of purchase and tell us your location. The HiFiMAN representative will advise next steps.

 

 

Q) Will I have to pay shipping or incur any costs?

A) We will pay shipping both ways. We apologize for the inconvenience and want to make this as easy for our valued customers as possible.  

 

 

Q) Will the replacement HE-400 you send out sound identical to the Rev 2?

Yes.

 

 

Q) What do I need to provide as proof of purchase?

A) Provide any of the following: a copy of the receipt from PayPal, your credit card company, from Head-Direct or your authorized HiFiMAN dealer. Email that to customerservice@head-direct.com with a note that you have one of the recent HE-400s with yellow plastic support and that you are asking for a replacement.

 

Q) If I have any other questions, who do I contact?

A) customerservice@head-direct.com My team is aware of the situation and they have been instructed to replace all HE-400s with the yellow plastic support.

I can only imagine how crisp and articulated that sounds on the HE-400, sadly I only got the AD700s for now while the hifimans are out for borrow.

I'm listening to my HE400s right now, they sound great. Does anyone have a clear picture of what the white/grey/good drivers look like, and what the yellow drivers look like? Mine are like a light splotchy off-white/yellow from what I remember.
