where can I get a custom cable made for the he400? I like the cable they come with but it's a little too long to use comfortably on my bed I want to get a shorter cable. And what would be a good replacement for the velour pads? they sound good and are not horribly uncomfortable but i think they're too firm lol I mean something similar but softer (links will be appreciated)

This for me too. Doesn't anyone sell a pre made aftermarket cable that doesn't have to be custom made? Are the connectors that Hi-Fi Man uses that odd? confused.gif

You can soften the velour pads by working them a bit in warm soapy water (dish soap works well).  Then, rinse and dry!  As far as aftermarket cables go, there are a few individuals and companies that will make them for you, but they can be pretty expensive ($100 - $200).  Check out Norse Audio, Toxic Cables, Moon Audio, Beat Audio, Q-Audio to name a few.  If you can solder well, you could probably make your own for about $50 - that's what I plan on attempting soon.

I've looked at a couple of posts regarding the replacement headband you can get for the HE-400, and I was wondering if there is a difference between these two headbands in terms of quality and comfort:

I got the CablePro Earcandy, it was recommended from an user in this forum.

I couldn't be happier with it.

I ordered a 6ft custom lenght and it's perfect

the cable is not as colorful and fancy as other more expensive ones, but it is more flexible than the stock one.

I'd think the size would be the determining factor. Do they give the size? I've heard the Beyers don't quite fit and are a bit small...

I don't care about fancy. I just can't see me dragging a ten foot cable around with me. I'm not crazy about how stiff and "bendy" the stock ones look either. Seems like a PITA.  These phones are going to be moving from the workshop to the bedroom to the living room...

Update: Awesome link Kiont. That's about the best price I've seen. They are very nice looking to boot!  Much appreciated! beerchug.gif

no problem

I asked them to replace the yellow band with a black one and it looks great

Unfortunately they don't give the size and searching didn't give any results, but maybe someone has had experience with the official Beyer replacement headband and the HE-400?

Before I take the plunge on the amazon ones, are there any leather replacement headbands out there? (I know J$ doesn't exist anymore... as far as I know.)

I'd say these are probably the best bang for the buck. I'll be getting my HE400s tomorrow and if I decide to keep them (probably) then that is going to be my first mod. I'll probably spring for the velour earpads as well. Thanks for the rec. The cable thing was bothering me... smile.gif

I got a custom cable made by a member on here and he did a good job. You could msg him and see if he gives you a good deal.

Edit: here are some pics. http://www.head-fi.org/t/604583/hifiman-he-400-impressions-and-discussion-thread/6645#post_9112574

Where can I get some J$ Beyer pads? I find the velours too stiff for my liking

Say... Those look pretty nice too. I'll shoot "teds headfood" a PM. Do you mind saying how much you paid for them?

Soak the velours in hot water for a good 5 mins, and squeeze dry. Let air dry. Afterwards they will become significantly softer.

I see after stepping away from Head-fi for a bit we're still on Pad-fi (which I am more than alright with).

What's new? Those velour/pleather combos beaver made look nice!

Is anyone still using no mesh?
