Sure but why not just use a more convenient player? Many support FLAC natively or via extensions that are easy to download. Apple forces you to either convert to WAV or use their ALAC...

I use foobar2000 with the HiFoo skin, and organize my library manually via folders. No complaints really.
edit:
oh dude we use the same interface!
I use OSX for the most part and only Windows for gaming. I also don't download anything that's Flac, as the majority of my songs are ripped from CDs. I see no reason to use anything other than iTunes.

I generally organize all my music manually by folder and use mp3tag for file details and album art. I used winamp for a long time, but recently gave songbird a try when I re-installed windows. Not really liking it as much as winamp, but I think I'll give Foobar a try today. HiFoo looks nice, I'll have to add that as well.

I use iTunes as it is a 'system' for me - I have all my CDs ripped in lossless format, and use it it on my iPhone/iPad or from my PC here in my office. For listening in my main listening room, I use wireless home sharing to have all my music avaialble via iPad/iPhone anywhere in the house, - and with my iPad I use the CCK>Schiit Modi which works really well.
The Windows version on my PC is definitely not the greatest interface, but I'm not too anal about it and for the devices I have it works pretty good.

Fair enough, if it works well for you everyone is happy
Cheers!

This is what I do on Foobar ... very minimal, mostly because I have over a terabyte of music and I need quick access to all of it. Always make sure I set my folder hiearchy to be artist > album > songs. I always rename every file in my collection to fit a proper scheme (track number track title), etc.
I really, truly hate the skinning process for Foobar. Trying to install one can be a headache, switching to another is even more of a headache, making your own is a nightmare and finding one that isn't totally counter-intuitive in ever way is a chore. That being said, it handles a ton of music well (WMP can't), has tons of plugins and doesn't lock you into its own user environment like a certain company (Apple/iTunes), doesn't force you to use idiotic file types (ALAC) and has stood the test of time. Have nothing against Winamp or most of the others, though.

Yeah, our ears don't hear the same frequencies proportionately thoughout the audible range:

There a paragraph on headphones in that which is interesting.
That is all interesting... when I was following the EQ thread and using sinegen - I had a real hot spot at 9.1k and EQ'ing that down a bit really helps with sibilance.

u2 :) - I've been surprised using the iPad>Modi DAC sounds so good, I've blind A/B'd it with the original CD and could tell no difference.

I can't get that theme to work following those instructions. I get to the step where it tells you to select columns UI but it only shows the default columns UI when I select it, the HiFoo one is nowhere to be found.
