I think you picked the wrong critical review if you wanted to be negative about the headphones being wasted with the specific album-- if you read it that is.

Is that an HE6 or just a greyscale HE400?

Ok it's greyscale (evident with the gold connector).

Dual mono speaker Hifiman setup :P

HE-400 and 500. No distortion and even a bit of bass slam. The sound is a bit too hollow, though, which I don't think I can fix with EQ. Not planars without a reason :P

They should be able to handle the 1.1 watt my amp can put out, not that I dare turn up my amp across 3 o'clock

you know they work better when you wear them right?

lmao......took me a few moments to figure out what you were up to.

Ur welcome :P I just don't really know how to fix that hollow sound, though... Else it would work quite well :D

The post kind of reminded me about the Grado line source speakers that were built using the Grado headphone drivers.  Yikes ....

I do this with the 6s when I want a break or just don't feel like wearing them. The sound is quite nice as a mini monitor........biggrin.gif

better than the laptop anyway.

Guessing sustained 80-90 db at the cup

Trying the HE-400 out as speakers right now using Magni and a 'warmth' boost on itunes eq.  (-6db reduction from 16khz to 1khz and 3db reduction at 500hz)

Much better treble quality than iMac's speakers, not enough lower midrange.  These things move a phenomenal amount of air right in front of them compared to other computers speakers I've used.  Too bad they can't really move much air much beyond 3 or so inches in front of them-- they just weren't built with the xmax for that.  As a result, more air is displaced for quick mid-bass strikes compared to sustained low sub-bass frequencies.   The cups themselves remain very sturdy, hardly any vibration on them at all.

I'm still debating with myself how loud I dare turn them up
