Lately I've been missing my LCD-2 so I tried to see if I could EQ the HE-400 to sound more like the LCD-2.  I'm one of those people that never use EQ of any kind so this was just a quick test with the stock Foobar equalizer.  I managed to come really close to what I remember.

I used the stock pleather pads (velour sounded to open to be the LCD-2 tongue.gif) with this EQ.

Brokenthumb I see you had he500 and now he400. Do you prefer the 400?

I prefer the bass and the physical weight of the HE-400.  Everything else the HE-500 takes the cake.  Thinking seriously about buying another.

And pleather or velour for he400/500?

Is the he-500 drastically heavier and bass anemic?

It didn't seem that much heavier quickly a/bing them but I guess listening for hours on end could be a different story?

^^ I've seen several pair of he500's at good prices on the used forums. If they weighed in at the same as the he400, I'd likely have a pair.

HE500 is far from bass anemic, in fact I'd say it has more bass presence than HE400, it is just not as tight or hard-hitting and more rumbling.

Okay, so are you saying that the he500 bass is loose and weak hitting. ph34r.gif

I like the velour with HE-400 and pleather with HE-500.

The HE-500 was heavier than the Rosewood LCD-2 I had but it distributed the weight better and was more comfortable to wear than the LCD-2.  The HE-500 isn't bass anemic it is just more balanced sounding to me, it blends well with the mids and treble and doesn't call attention to itself as much as the HE-400's does.  That's how I remember it anyway.

Does anyone have a spare stock cable that they don't need anymore and I could buy for cheap?

Nope, it is still some of the best, just not as perfect in those aspects of bass as HE400. Might be due to differences in driver membrane tension or something. However I gotta say, with the J$ beyer pads, the HE500 bass achieves the tactility of HE400+velours...although HE400+J$ still seems to have the most amazing bass tactility I've heard (as tactile if not moreso than I remember how bass sounded on LCD2/3).

I have not heard the he400 with J$ pads. But the lcd2.2 had bass that was a clear level better than the he400 by my memory.

That weight though... the LCD-2 headband just killed my head, the top of my cranium was always sore if I used it for any extended period.

Are those j$ pads still going around in the US? what does one do about the lack of a screen for someone who isn't crafty.

I did about 15 hours with them over a weekend. I was in a neck brace on Monday. eek.gif jk...but I was quite sore. Could never see myself buying them due to the weight and comfort.

Aren't both the HE-500 and HE-6 heavier than the LCD-2?
