I will defer to you on that one. Actual soundstage has always been at the bottom of my list because I just really don't hear monumental differences. Not sure why really. I can hear differences between open and closed cans for sure, but I've also heard closed cans that I thought had good soundstage...such as the d5k and the maddogs.

I don't find much importance in soundstage when listening to stereo, like music and whatnot, but incredibly important when gaming. The HE400's relatively standard sized soundstage hurts it for gaming a bit compared to other headphones with large soundstages.

And yes, the D7000 has an unbelievably large soundstage for a 'closed' headphone. Bigger than the HE400, for sure. Still, haven't heard any headphone that compared to the HE-400 in actual imaging and instrument seperation in stereo. They are godly in that aspect.

Yes, for some reason the dolby headphone on the mixamp seems to blowup the differences in the native soundstage of the headphones you're using for whatever magical reason.  AD700 was stupidly huge with it.  Denons were about average sized.  M50 was small.  A pair of skullcandy buds didn't work at all!!

mmmm HE-400 seems to be better paired with my Lyr than the Matrix M-Stage

and man i have stopped using my HD600 since I got this and the Q701 lol 

at the end of the day the HD600 is more bassy and the sound stage doesnt feel as wide compared to the HE-400

Bass is tighter on the HE-400 than the Q701 but Q701 seems to have more highs. 

Soundstage is wider on HE-400 than Q701 as well it feels

Comfort wise, I would say the Q701 > HD600 > HE-400 cuz man these leather pads are quite hard 

So grand question, which one should I leave at my office lol

Hope you aint talking about the D7000, which had a huge soundstage with Dolby Headphone.

I refuse to believe its soundstage is miraculously that much larger than the D2000.  The D2000's was large, but not as large as say, a DT990.

Closed headphone, man. Closed. Can't compare a closed to an open though it was still considerably larger than the HE-400s. The depth was also better.

The "output impedance" worship is just another manifestation of the incredibly popular concept "I really really wish I could just choose audio components by looking up measurements".   Note that the Bottlehead Crack has 120 ohm output impedance, and thus according to Mr. Measurement, it is "bad" for all headphones made (whereas it is widely considered to be one of the best headphone amps).


It is still a subjective opinion when comparing different amps and having to decide on a favorite.There are other factors that affect sound quality and performance, so, I figured I was just pointing out the obvious.
