There is no comparison to Sennheiser . . . . I put mine on the other day and marveled at how much closer they come to "disappearing" on my head. Then again "lightness" sometimes feels cheaper to me also.

Of course yesterday I got a block of electronic music that hit so hard and deep, I wondered how I could ever "settle" for the Senns again. Sorta like borrowing your friend's 150lb subwoofer for a weekend. Sure, it was a b**** to move, but now you don't want to give it back.

Thank You

Check on ebay, you can find custom cables for reasonable price.
The canare cable is good sounding, may be heavy and not flexible enough

Hello all,

I just received my HE-400 and had a question.  I'm currently using the Asus Xonar Essence ST for my amp.  When I have the amp set to "Normal Gain" (rated for headphones with less than 64 ohms), the volume is rather low, even when turning up the volume.

The volume is perfect when I have the amp set to "High Gain" (rated for headphones with 64-300 ohms).  I just want to make sure that this will not damage my HE-400 headphones since they're rated at 35 ohms.

Thanks in advance!

BTW, I'm loving these headphones!!

Planar Magnetic headphones can take a lot of power.  The HE-400 can probably take whatever the max your soundcard can dish out and then some.

I use it on high or even extra high gain. You won't damage the cans.

OTLs typically do not do well with lower impedance cans. I have tried my HE-400s and HE-500s on the Bottlehead Crack w/ Speedball and did not like how it sounded.

Sure it's safe. The potential problem with OTLs is that they have less power at low impedances. It depends on the amp of course, but I found that my Little Dot Mk3 clipped into the HE-400 at high volumes on certain tracks. It sounded fine when it wasn't clipping though. Even so, the combination ultimately wasn't to my taste. If you like the Darkvoice then go for it.
