Yea I think from first impression 400's are  better than 990 but 990s are comfortable and lighter than 400.

I owned the 990's for 2 years, pretty spot on. HE-400's beat them in every way but comfort. DT990's are very comfortable.

Awesome. And with the velour pads and HD-650 head pad and a better cable Im hoping to make the HE-400's a whole lot more comfortable.

I concur, compared to my old DT-990 Pros. Though IMO the HE-400 is more comfortable as well. The DT-990 pressed against my ears more.

i re-downloaded J river media today and messed around with the dsp settings and am getting some very impressive results.  Don't know how much it will help with the normal velour or pleather pads as i'm having great results with the modded d2000 pads but its helping this headphone tremendously with vocals.

the eq preset is one i made called vocals so you will have to manually set it up

These fit the HE series like a glove. They are also not as bulky like most HP cases.

looking at the eq i feel like an idiot lol.  i just chose the live concert preset and changed the bass.  Now it's basically flat with little differences

basically flat with a small dip at 6 and more so from 12 to 14

Is there a cheap and lightweight cable option for the he-400? The stiffness and weight of the stock one is starting to bother me..

BTG Audio budget series maybe?

finding that pronounced (increased spacialization) tab instead of stand under headphone dsp to be more musical and much better instrument separation.

now if only i could get my spotify to play through j river

Maybe... Those seem somewhat reasonably priced. Thanks

My HE400 is on the selling block if anyone's interested. Upgraded me to an HE4 and doing the HE400 no justice with so much time just sitting. If anyone is interested:
