EDM in general imo

YouTube isn't the best quality obviously but this is a pretty good track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymIseyI4OHU

Also shows off some of the sibilance on the HE-400 though :o

Hi Guys ,

I am new to head-fi and I have a question about Amp/Dacs for the HE-400.

Only Fiio amps are available where I stay, and I was wondering whether  E07k+E12 makes a good pairing for HE-400 .

I am also confused about how these would connect (yes, I am a total amp noob) . My understanding is: PC(thru USB)--->E07k(headphone out) ---->E12(line in)---->HE-400(E 12 headphone out) . Is this correct, or will the HE-400 be amped twice in this configuration, once thru the E07k and once thru the E12 ?

Also is headphone out the same as a line out?

Here's hoping you guys can help, coz I can only order these amps online, so I can't test them.

My god. You nailed it. My favorite song of all time is Heavyweight, favorite Noisia song is Red Heat, the entire Mezzanine album is fantastic, wow. Just seeing that group of songs gave me goose bumps lol.

Jazz/Blues/Folk -

Anything from Bill Bruford and the Earthworks

I love Medeski Martin and Wood CD, "End of the World Party"

Joe Bonnamassa - Dust Bowl (live) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el38MFPJDAk

Other than EDM, I consider Jazz/folk/acoustic a HE-400 specialty. Particularly when it is live.

E07K has a "lo bypass" switch which you use when providing a line-out to another amp, in your case, the E12. Otherwise, you have the connection stream correct.

The other question is, what are you going to use for a source? Because you may not need to buy two amps if you already have a decent DAC on some other device!

Thanks a Lot! That clears up a lot of confusion!

The source is a Dell XPS laptop...which has pretty decent sound quality. Can I just use the E12 directly from this source- i.e. Laptop ------------------>3.5mm jack to 3.5mm Jack--------> E12 ?

Right now I am listening to these HP's unamped while I decide which amp to buy , and the sound has been rather underwhelming, because they don't seem to have enough power.

In your opinion, which is a better combo for the HE 400 -E07k+E09K or E07k+E12 ?

Thanks again!

Gentlemen,

I'm a new HeadFi'er in need of some answers. Right now I have my HiFiMan HE-400 hooked up to an Aune T1 both of which were purchased brand new. I'm outputting 16/44 from my computer via usb to the Aune T1. When I max out the volume on the Aune, it gets pretty loud but just under what I'd like. Increasing the gain seems to have actually decreased the loudness. Am I just maxing out the power output form the T1 or what? If anyone has experience in this regard... Thanks in advance.

You can technically plug the laptop's headphone jack into an amp, but it's not optimal. You aren't bypassing the cheap circuitry in the headphone jack.

I'd go with E09k just because it has a bit more power and doesn't use a battery, but hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

Well I have some good news and some bad news

Good news I purcahsed a nice D2k. Cocobolo Cups and a D7k Cable!

Bad News that was like 2 weeks ago and I still don't have it... my seller wants to get Martin of Martin Custom Audio to do some minor repairs [he's covering that cost] before I get them, and well Martin is very busy atm. A shame since this is Thanksgiving weekend coming up so I have no idea when I'll get my D2k

That said, the other bit of Good News is I just got a UE 6000, I got it for a friend. Non the less I'll have it for about a week... and honestly... I do like it! MMMM all that SLOPPY THICK Closed BASS me gusta! So that said, I liked the HE 400, it had awesome bass, but I have NO problems going back to THICK SLAMMIN CLOSED BASS goodness!

:[ yea it's slight lacking texture but pff it's EDM. The vocals are clear, the highs have a nice snap and the bass is kickin!

And best of all they don't [and you really shouldn't] use an amp with them. Apprently, the Noise Cancelling Circuit inside well amps the signal a little more than it ideally should. with the ACN on the bass get's BIGGER and digs deeper, but it's losses a little clarity and get's a lil sloppy. But non the less, it's much MUCH better than my old XB 700 which was my last Bass Head Closed Can. And while it's not nearly as nice as the W1000x in tightness and clarity... it's got a nice mix of Quanity and Quality that leave me a sastified bass head!

that said, LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING MY D2K ALREADY -.-

I would say the E07k+E09K combo because  you can use the E07k as a DAC only. In E07k+E12 combo you have to use the E07k as a preamp.

I think so.

That also works with the E17, which is what I use it for. You just have to make sure you use the bypass switch on the side of the E7/E17 in order to bypass the preamp :D
