I have to admit that I get a perverse pleasure from antagonizing people who I find disagreeable, but I am done for now as well. Next post will be explicitly HE-400 related.

Ok, washed the velour pads but I still find them uncomfortable as they are not as plush as the pleathers (although sonically better). I've ordered a pair of Alpha Pads for the HE400 and will report back on how they are when they arrive. Also is it worth it to upgrade the HE400's cable?

Can someone give me an idea of the  Hifiman HE-400's level of isolation?.i.e- when you place them over your ears (without music playing ) ,what level of isolation> from 0% for no noticeable difference in isolation to 100% for complete isolation . I realize they are open designed headphones so isolation will be relatively very low .

But how low? Can you still hear someone whisper etc ?.

Thanks

Basically if you need isolation and no sound leakage then do not buy the HE400, they do not isolate outside sounds hardly at all and they leak sound a lot, they are powerful drivers and if you turn them up you could almost use them as mini speakers!

The HD600 and HE400 are completely different, you cannot really compare the two, choose depending on your music tastes, but if someone said to me "what are two completely different headphones that would make a good combo if you had both" I would probably say HD650 + HE400 because they sound very different but both are good at certain genres, the HE400 is a better all rounder if you EQ it, HD600 are nice headphones but they seem a bit outdated now, they are about 20 year old design and they sound quite slow and not good for some genres, HE400 probably do not have as good sound quality as the HD600 but they are fast, FAR better bass, and can sound good with pretty much any genre with mods and EQ. If you like things like classical music, rock, gaming, vocals those sorts of things then get the HD600, if you like a lot of genres and electronic music, fast music, metal etc. then get the HE400.

Not a problem with china as such, because pretty much everything is made there these days, but the lack of distribution in the UK and having to physically buy it shipped from China.

yay now this is where i come in and tell you that Toxic Cables carries Audio GD amps and is conveniently located in the UK :D

Anyone pair these up with a FiiO E18? I was maybe interested these headphones but would have to know if my DAC/AMP is sufficient.

Hmmmm....is the W1000x a side-grade from the HE-400? $400 is pretty tempting

I like the W1000x very much. It does female vocals like nothing else I own. The only negative thing I can say about it is the stock pads are terrible(sounding and comfort).

I had a hard time getting a good seal with the A900X. Is it a similar issue? I've heard the wing system is better on other pairs at least (considering it was terrible on the A900X IMO).

Yeah, with the stock pads it is, with a thicker pad it is a bit better.

Hello folks.

I have a Schiit Modi + Magni, and listen to 24/96 audio with my HE-400 headphones. I'm thinking of buying the new Schiit Loki and trying out DSD64 sources (played with Audirvana). Do you think my amp and headphones (that is, Magni and HE-400), are resolving enough that it would be meaningful to take this step? Or would it be pointless, since DSD64 and 24/96PCM, for a given recording, would be indistinguishable on a Magni+HE-400?

I'm confused, because it's possible that DSD only makes sense for people who own REALLY high-end gear like Senn HD800s. If that is so, I won't buy the Loki.

Thanks!

If you have, or are planning to get a lot DSD content then I don't see why it isn't worth trying. I am also curious about the format.

Any particular songs out there that make the HE-400 really shine? (Without EQ)
