I liked the he-4 better for everything that have in my library.
Based on the sound I would support that, I honestly feel that my Dt 880 with a +3 boost to the mid bass is perfect! It does EVERYTHING fantastic... I how ever do not eq anything out side of EDM [since eq is imo un reliable seeing as different software does eq a little different, and not to mention if you are un able to eq [like using a line out of a DAP] you kinda get disappoionted] How ever for the VERY few times that I accidently left my eq, again the Dt 880 had MIND blowing bass :O and mids. How ever though, listening today with the same EQ I do notice the mids do suffer a bit... a fair enough trade off but again I don't like eq so I prefer no eq over hainv to adjust the eq slighty for each song
THAT said, the HE 4 sounds like a Dt 880 with a smidge more bass and mids [since it's an ortho] which would make it easily a SUPER Dt 880, but again I've been using Dynamics since I started the hobby, outside of the HE 400 for edm, I don't see my self re arranging my room to buy an amp just to drive the HE 4, so it will have to wait
On a side note how ever... DAMN the AD900X has some BASS to it :O It's just as tight and solid as the Dt 990 and yet it's as balanced as the Dt 880... I'm willing to bet the HE 4 has a bass simmilar if not even better than the AD900x [which lacks sub bass] but as I try more headphones voiced like teh DT 880 and AD900x [which I got today] I can understand how the HE 4 could be a king within the price range and sound signiture of cans like the DT 880, Sony MA900 and ATH AD900x
You would just need have your amps gear for Orthos and forget about going portable with an HE 4 lol
