all my cans r like that sadly

Damn this forum, now you people are making me want to sell me he400 and get the he4, which I was going to get in the first place. Pretty sure my recapped pioneer sx 727 can push it far enough to tell if its a good fit for me. Would the he4 sound better for rock and metal than the 400? I'm awaiting my magnum drivers now so I want whatever would be the best sidekick.

The consensus from a few people is that the HE-4 is the best option of the HiFiMans for metal and hard rock (at least I read this from a few members who've heard the whole lineup).  They supposedly have the most airiness next to the HE-6 and their signature being slightly v-shaped suggests they'd probably be a fun/aggressive listen.  Once my new amp is finished I'll have something that can properly drive them so my hope is to pick up a used pair sometime next year.

Time to post them up for trade then! Hopefully someone will want to just swap with me, he4 for he400. I need to sell this dac destroyer and fiio e17 to anyways, and my shure 840, must, stop, obsessing over headphones...kid needs diapers...haha just kidding, but seriously this is the most addicting hobby I've ever gotten myself into.

Almost as addicting as buying/selling Diablo 2 items back in the day!

I would add the I didn't find any material that the he-4 didn't handle better than the he400. Rock, Pop, Jazz, Country...

I liked the he-4 better for everything that have in my library.

Like I mentioned earlier, its going for $50 less than the HE400 on Headamp...

That HE4 is simply gonna be unrivaled at $350. Literally the best kept secret for audiophiles.

Based on the sound I would support that, I honestly feel that my Dt 880 with a +3 boost to the mid bass is perfect! It does EVERYTHING fantastic... I how ever do not eq anything out side of EDM [since eq is imo un reliable seeing as different software does eq a little different, and not to mention if you are un able to eq [like using a line out of a DAP] you kinda get disappoionted] How ever for the VERY few times that I accidently left my eq, again the Dt 880 had MIND blowing bass :O and mids. How ever though, listening today with the same EQ I do notice the mids do suffer a bit... a fair enough trade off but again I don't like eq so I prefer no eq over hainv to adjust the eq slighty for each song

THAT said, the HE 4 sounds like a Dt 880 with a smidge more bass and mids [since it's an ortho] which would make it easily a SUPER Dt 880, but again I've been using Dynamics since I started the hobby, outside of the HE 400 for edm, I don't see my self re arranging my room to buy an amp just to drive the HE 4, so it will have to wait

On a side note how ever... DAMN the AD900X has some BASS to it :O It's just as tight and solid as the Dt 990 and yet it's as balanced as the Dt 880... I'm willing to bet the HE 4 has a bass simmilar if not even better than the AD900x [which lacks sub bass] but as I try more headphones voiced like teh DT 880 and AD900x [which I got today] I can understand how the HE 4 could be a  king within the price range and sound signiture of cans like the DT 880, Sony MA900 and ATH AD900x

You would just need have your amps gear for Orthos and forget about going portable with an HE 4 lol

How would those HE-4s compare to the HE-400 with EDM music? I really like the fact that they're 100 grams lighter than the HE-400 too.

Nope. Smidge?  The different in bass between the 880 and he4 is significant. Like, the rabbit just died significant.

:O that doesn't sound good... the Dt 880 is like well only a smidge short of PERFECT for me... if the HE 4 has THAT much more bass... I wonder about it for example the AD 900x has some AWSEOME FREAKING bass like DAMN, it's a little tigher than the Dt 880 and a little deeper dare I say, but it's a little too lean which means  with EDM it's KILLER but with Jazz it's loses a little of the beauty of wooden bass tones the Dt 880 has very neutral bass, I would ONLY want a smidge more of it over all, where as the AD 900x has slighty overly lean bass but there's more bass over the Dt 880  so :/ it's a wierd mix, I would say the HE 4 most likely has more bass than the AD 900x which would... kinda not be a great thing, espically if it has the mids of the Dt 880 as that bass would drown out the mids a little,

EITHER WAY I SHALL NOT ADMIT DEFEAT, until I hear it q.q [and I'm sure when I hear it I'll be a very sad Beyer owner]

Soooo, you're reviewing headphones you've never heard? Interesting approach sir....

Isn't the HE-400 supposed to be the new and improved HE-4 (per say)?

I was under the impression the HE-400 was superior to the HE-4...
