Welcome to my world.
I don't usually have spelling errors, my bane of existence here has been that I often post bold claims and statements before considering any arguments to back them up, and I end up having to go back and supplement those posts later so as to not shame myself too much.

Sorry, I've got nothing on those. Maybe someone will chime in..
NFB 15.1 -> Will this add more powerful dynamics to the HE-400? Also, can it sufficiently drive HE-500?
Will the NFB 15.1 add more dynamics than what? Yes, it would drive the he500 well.
Than say a NuForce Icon HD with ~300mW driving the HE-400. It is my only reference with the HE-400, and I generally liked it. I'll be sending mine back, as they are rev3 and indeed a bit sharp in the high end. I'm looking to replace the Icon HD with the NFB 15.1, and in the future try the HE-400 (non rev3) again out of that more powerful setup.
Edit: Also thinking of just going up the HE-500, if indeed it is less dark-sounding than HE-400. Vocals were the least satisfying thing to me about the HE-400. They just sounded unnaturally dark - I thought maybe a more powerful amp might somewhat alleviate that problem.
The darker voices and signature is somewhat inherent to the he400. The icon is pretty darn good as is the nfb15.1. There won't be a huge difference there, although I'd give the edge to the nfb15.1.
They are an interesting presentation, but I really prefer it to phones that try to bring out vocals because there are side effects that come with that i'm finding.
You mean from Head Direct?
They don't 'require' break in, but if you're into that kinda stuff then just have them running on music when you sleep every night.
Hey everyone. Last year I sold my D2000, but the headphone world has sucked me back in. I'm saving up for another D2000 or the HE-400. I'm a huge basshead and the D2000 satisfied me many times over. OP says he thinks these two are neck and neck. So, any other basshead HE-400 owners that consider these on par with the D2000 in regards to bass quantity?
An example: Can you hear the sub bass in the drop at 0:52?
Short answer, nope. Stick with the d2k. While the he400 does nice sub bass for an ortho, it can not match the quantity of the denon series.
The HE-400 can give a good fight down to 40hz, but the Denon has way more quantity at 30hz.
