The COPs look cool and the bass blows my mind, but the quantity of the bass doesn't make up for lack of soundstage, mids, or treble clarity. They're not bad by any means, but I would definitely recommend forking over an extra $50 for DT770s to anyone considering them.

Quote:I was not impressed with the Bass response of the DT770s. After all I'd heard about them being "bass head" phones I was a bit disappointed. They have decent Bass, but not compared to something like the ATH M50 or the Ultrasone Pro 900. Not even close...

But that's entirely the point. They're not meant to be bass monsters. The COPs are. And they are quite bassy. But I think something with the more balanced sound like the DT770s are better overall.

Nice!!! I hope it works! I want to see pictures and read some impressions :) the cup design does influence the sound, right? Hopefully the COPs can do the Fostex some justice.

I think the cup volume is more of a factor than shape, barring immediately reflections, but damping should take care of most of that anyways.

So my COP has arrived. Great build quality and looks, very comfortable, excellent isolation. Sound I could go either way on. It's not superb, but not bad. Good enough to make me feel a little guilty when I eventually put these on the operating table

Eh... the sound isn't inherently bad, but I think there's a lot to be desired. I would've liked DT880 clarity/detail with slightly less bass. But I guess that's sort of the DT770? I would like a DT770 anniversary driver in the COP shells. Now that would probably be awesome.

post #912 of 9182/19/13 at 6:40pmQuote:I agree with them being bassy, not basshead. I'm surprised you found there to be more bass in the M50's, the 1 time I auditioned, I found them to sound average in the lows (forward by monitor standards), but I only listened from an iphone, so maybe they were lacking power. Also a demo pair, so may have been mistreated.
Ultrasones are on another level for bass, but all the mid priced models that have lots of bass seem to have a horrible treble spike (me thinks a signature of the S-Logic sound).

Man, if the COPs aren't basshead-level... I really need to demo some Ultrasones. The COPs vibrate on my head with an EQ and the 3rd slider. 4th is just fart cannon level.

So, true, and I hate it :( It hurts my ears when listening to EDM, so I have to EQ the treble down a bit.

Virtually all closed cans will suffer from a treble spike of some sort. Semi-open ones may as well. Practically all the full sized Beyers I've heard suffer from this as well.
