I wonder where he got the 240GB backplate from...

I found the 240GB drive on eBay here:

Finding the back cover seems a bit more difficult lol

Hi all. I am from Singapore. After reading all the posts on this thread, I am still wondering if I should get it.  Currently, elec-king is selling the refurb 240GB 7G classic at S$298 + $30(postage) = S$328. However the retail store are selling brand new 160GB at S$348.

 

Adding on, I am not sure about the reliability on the items sold by the seller. And isit worth to get the refurb 240GB or pay the extra S$20 for a new and 1-year warranty?

 

Kindly advise!

Only you can answer that question... Do you really need the extra 80GB?

If i don't really need it now, is it better to spend the extra bucks to get a new one? (Cause its like spending extra to get a lesser capacity, while I could get a more capacity at a cheaper price. Except the warranty) And maybe in the future if I needed the extra space, i could DIY mod it?

Yes, that's possible and seems a good decision. That was the decision I also took several months ago when was about to buy my Classic...

AFAIK, those 7G 240GB Classic's found at eBay only have the HDD and back cover (and some, the battery too) changed. The rest is the same as a stock 7G 160GB unit...

Is there any difference in performance between the 160Gb and 240Gb? I think the 160Gb is a single platter and the 240Gb a double platter HD.

The only difference I noticed was that the 240 took slightly longer loading long lists og cover art
