3/31/12 CanFEST III Headphone Event (with Turntable and Vinyl Show) IMPRESSIONS

Once again Danny and the other organizers did an outstanding job today with the latest version of CanFest in Charlotte, NC.  It was great seeing so many familiar faces who were vendors, those who came to see and test out their latest and greatest offerings as well as a living legend like Joe Grado.  I learned volumes from all the above!!

I wanted to express my appreciation to the sponsors who donated items and otherwise supported this gathering, those who organized it and the folks who attended today's highly successful event and took a moment to talk with me and share their collective wisdom.  In my view it was an excellent networking and learning opportunity as well as time well spent.

What a great meet this was (and my first one too!). Finally got to hear a bunch of awesome headphones (HD800, T1, HE-6, HE-500, LCD-2, LCD-3, SR-009, some other Stax and HE-60s!), many thanks to everyone that came out and to everyone that let me listen to their awesome gear. Was great to get to meet people and talk about the craziness that is head-fi.

Will post some pictures once I get home and have a chance to go through them.

Yup, had a great time meeting you guys and got to try out some cool `phones I've not heard before.

In terms of gear, the new standouts are the Fostex TH900s (Drew said $1300, but I'm pretty sure that price is a little off) and the HE300s (bang for the buck monsters). In vintage stuff, I'm gonna have some Senn HE-60s, bank on it. Also was great to sample the tube gears in the upper room. Fun, fun stuff.

3/31/12 CanFEST III Charlotte, NC IMPRESSIONS

There were two rooms used for the event, the Ball Room for the 60 Vinyl dealers and headphone gear vendors, Ray Samuels, Moon Audio, HI-Man, Liquid Hi-Fi and Joe Grado and a smaller much quieter Cave for Head-FI members and their gear. Here are some photos of the Head-Fi room.

Man I would have SO asked him (Joseph Grado) to autograph my HP2's headband with a white indelible autographing pen.

Regarding Chefguru's questions about Joe's new ear pads, yes he did have some there.

I'll provide some more detailed impressions later, but briefly:

Lots of LCD-2s and I could see why. Was also impressed that my Asgard at least drove them decently.

Liked the T1 and Fostex, didn't like the HD800s.

Wish it was quieter in the main room when I got to hear the LCD-3 and SR-009s; unfortunately I don't have any real opinion of them because of this.

HE-60s were probably the highlight of the show for me.

Don't happen to have a picture with the Bryston amp on top of the PS Audio DAC that's in focus do you?

No sorry, was in a bit of a hurry with those pics so that I could get back to listening. I was lucky and got into the main room right at the start, so I was able to move down the row and listen to everything Drew brought!

So anyone got impressions of the Bryston? Sorry to see it paired with the T1 frown.gif Hopefully other headphones were used with it, also.

Don't have time for any impressions but wanted to pop in to say I had an absolutely wonderful time. This was the best one yet. Fantastic time talking to everyone and from what I saw of all the people lined up at Drews table and some of the vinyl shoppers that ended up upstairs I think we probably have some converts to the world of Headfi.

Danny, you and your assistant, the esteemed Fatcat deserves some huge pats on the back.
