Denon D7100?! - Page 109

Anybody use the 7100's with a fostex hp-p1? Does the sound work? And how does it sound? Thanks.

I dont understand why all the hate for the 7100's. The answer I most commonly hear is they are not as good as the 7000's, but this is a terrible argument. They are different and intended for different purposes. They have strengths and weaknesses compared to the 7000's. The value they provide and the features they have are unequalled by any other headphone period! Especially, being at around $800 dollars now, there is no headphone that can compete with their portability/iphone friendliness, comfort, isolation, pack-in items, sound (excellent sub base, mids and decent sound stage and highs). I think the only area where they are bested by the 7000's are their highs but they offer so much over the 7000's - lows, mids, isolation and portability. Vs the ed 8's they have better base better sound stage come with more stuff removable cables and are cheaper.

Have you had the chance to compare your D7100 to other headphones?

Yes against the ah-d 2000's, 7000's hd 598's, and momentum's. I want to test more, hopefully in due time. Mostly I posted this to pull from the greater experience of others and to challenge my opinion to see what I am missing in my assessment.

For $600 price you paid, it's not bad I guess, I would not pay more than $400 IMO, but did you get a chance to test drive Ultrasone Edition 8 ?  UE8 is far far superior than D7100, it has more bass compare to D7000 and more practical in terms of portability except that long long long cable (lol).

Yup, my buyprice for this can is 400, now to wait it out.
Or I will jus pick up the 600 at 200 n be dun with.
Meanwhile my k550 more than kill off these cans including the ed8...
Jus did a pad-mod on it...tongue.gif

What do you guys not like about the 7100's?

I have not tested the E8's and was going to get them instead, but from what I read the price does not justify the difference between it and the 7100's. The bass on the 7100's is better than the 7000's in my opinion many agree. And I do think the 7100's are a better bargain with all that is included and the detachable cables.

My issue is they sounded worse than the D600s, which are ~$350.

I agree,

In what way did they sound worse to you. I did listen to the 600's and found them with less everything - bass extension/control, mids were less airy and more recessed and highs had less extension. Every review I have read agrees. I thought they sounded quite boring. More flat and neutral but boring. Is that what you liked about them - the neutrality?

Less bass is more, especially in this case, D7100 bass was waaaay too exaggerated (and distorted).

I really love it! Different strokes... The 2000's 7000's bass was even more out of control; have you forgotten?

Well thats cool. I can accept that what some people dont like about the 7100's is what I find to be a great quality. At least I know i am not missing out on something. Thanks.
