I spent a long time with the D7100 yesterday.  It was awesome!  It sounded the way I want.  The price, however, was not.  I can find it used for around $850 though...

don;t worry, just keep waiting, D7100 will pop few times around 800 to 900$ in a year, dealer will have to decrease the price since D7100 did not sell well. Denon screw this time.

If you're willing to spend that much money on headphones, there are a lot better options out there. 

Headroom is having the new D7100 for 799 bucks. I may pick up a pair for the sake of comparison with the D7000. I'm kind of deviating away from the Denon house sound though, after spending some time with the T1. My T1 does everything better than my D7000 except for speaker-like bass impact and quantity.

I've heard the D7100 twice now. Save your $. Your D7000s are better to my ears. Tyll's measurements show as much too:

Unfortunately the D7100 simply did not inherit the bass quality of the D7000. There just isn't the same amount of control and it vibrates off the back cup and sounds like a cheap logitech subwoofer.

It's odd that the D600 actually measures slightly better than the D7100, it doesn't have that nasty 500Hz dip. I also don't quite understand how both the D600 and D7100 have almost neutral, flat bass response but are so bassy. 

But it seems like it's better to save up for the TH-900 nonetheless. A comparison between the 900 and 7000 should be interesting :D

Agreed! I've owned the D7000 twice and really enjoyed it. But the TH-900 is a "perfected" D7000 and the best closed can I've owned/heard. I prefer it to the Ed.8s, D7000s, W3000ANV and Signature Pros.

What's really important to note on the innerfidelity measurements is the 30Hz square wave. The bass response is really really poor.

Wondering how TH-900 compares to Lawton D5k/D7k.

Good question. I only heard the LA7000 briefly a few years back and can't remember much. However, that said, it must not have been that impressive as it didn't motivate me to update either of the two D7000s that I owned.

D7K has a better bass to begin with on D5K in stock form it's plain awful.
