I agree that just for the audio quality and build $1400 may be reasonable (many agree its one of the best dynamic headphones in current production) add the valuable and beautiful Urishi finished cups and you are looking at $2000+. To me its fair, its a work of art both in terms of audio and visual beauty. For those who think the pricing is too steep the TH600s may be closer to the $1k margin and will forgo the Urishi coating/wood cups for matte metal cups (at least as far as the prototype shows).

To be honest the Aduiotechnica W3000 ANV look much better (beautiful) and more expensive than even these Urishi-finished headphones. While still costing noticeably less.

Agree, but TH-900 cup housing is a beautiful Urushi lacquer finish. ;p

That's the exact reason I didn't buy TH-900 :)

I've also wondered, why can't these expensive Urishi finished cups isolate external noise better?  I've had that same complaint with the Denon headphones, and many other closed headphones.

The design of the Denons is considered to be semi-open, so I'm guessing the Fostex are the same.

Normally, I'd do exactly that. When opinions tend to be heavily polarized, I'd just give the headphone a go. But, I don't have the extra dough (or the time) for a hit-and-run demo, so this forum (along with other review sites) is the only utility I can viably use to sketch an idea of the D7100's performance. Of those who found it unsavory, most used the D7000 as a benchmark and considered the predecessor superior, which delivered the final whammy that made me let go of the fence because I used to own a D7000 and hoped for something better.

Besides, dismissing so many rebukes as nothing but inane opinions is a slap in the face for the people who put their time and effort into contributing to the community with headphone reviews. With that said, you're right in what you're saying and I'm grateful for the advice, but I just don't have the means.

Can't disagree with you there. I'm also inclined to go with what the majority are saying as well although it still isn't necessarily correct 100% of the time. I figure if you really want an upgrade over the Denon 7000s then look into the upcoming Fostex TH600. That looks quite promising.

I've got a weird question: I notice that the earcups on these look similar to those on the new Logitech UE noise cancelers, Are they made by the same OEM?

The Denon D7100 is on sale in the UK at £449. This seem to be a good deal right?

Some would say this price is fine, while other would say they have too much bass to be enjoyable (even more than cheaper D600).

The old denon line is missed.

How can they drop down by 55% that quick?! That is cheaper than a D7000 in used condition!

449 pounds sterling is about $770 US.. thats about the street price of the D7000s new (could actually be had cheaper at some shops). So it doesnt seem unreasonable, especially considering the bad rep they have been getting from reviews.
