post #1023 of 163510/3/12 at 6:45amI'm not a professional, just like to listen to music and movies on the highest quality i can afford, so the search for the perfect pair began with the Denon D5000 without knowing that it will never end...:)
From all the headphones i had (D5000, Z1000, HD650) these are the best, they are very similar to the D5000 but a bit more comfortable, with more accessories (yes, the accessories are nice) and with a bit better sound, especially on the low and bass sounds. i can understand what you're talking about when you mention the 'rings' in the ears but it has been fixed with playing on the EQ.
btw - i'm using 'only' a PC and a sound card to drive the D7100, the sound card is Asus Essense STX, not sure how much i'll gain with driving them on expensive amp but might get into it sooner or later.
I really think that compared to everything they offer they are a good deal, correct me if i'm wrong and you can find something with similar price on the market.

Oh hell no. You can get better for cheaper - just reading I can tell you that,
also there are a boat load of reasons why the STX is a **** amp for the D5000, check the link in my sig regarding denon amps.
- Impedance mismatches
- crappy stock opamps - bloated bass, harsh highs
- the STX is better suited to higher impedances
The list goes on.
SO simply your analysis or recommendation is invalid.
post #1025 of 163510/3/12 at 7:45amThe headphones i've listen to until today were all connected to the STX card, so i can have a comparison.
There are lots of pages on your post regarding denon D5000 amps, can you please just samary it and tell me which might be the better AMP for D7100?

Quote:first page, seriously.
No point in comparing high end gear with a good DAC and an entry level headphone amp unsuited to its application for some of the headphones you are comparing.
its like comparing 2 sports cars when the one is on bicycle tyres.
post #1028 of 163510/3/12 at 8:21amOK, i just saw that Matrix M-stage is on sell now for 250$ and its a good candidate for Denon (especially because of the price+quality).
If buy this amp, i can connect it to my source which is my STX sound card, is that ok?
btw - i have Denon 1912 reciever at home but i guess its also lacking of good headphone amp inside..
Thanks!

good bang for buck! should help the D7100 a lot aswell. and yes hooking the 2 up is exactly what I would recommend.

Quote:Talk to Trevor from Norse Audio. You can PM me if you can't find his email address.
He makes really great and super good looking cables at a decent price.
He's also busy sourcing the connectors for the D7100/D600.
I will be ordering the connectors myself to put on one of his cables I have here.
I have a few of his cables left that I was going to sell but they don't have the length you need.

I've been away from headphones/head-fi for a while. Came back here tonight, discovered the Senn Mometnums and AKG K550, got kinda excited, found out about this new Denon line and the death of D2, 5, and 7K and now I feel my soul has been crushed. I've been holding out of the D5k for so long, and then this happens? I hope this new line is a total failure and I wouldn't be surprised if it is. I mean, $1300 for this thing? Do they really think people paying these prices for headphones want them to look or sound anything like Beats? This is a real shame.

You find the D7100 looks like beats and the K500 and Momentum look good???

I didn't like the looks of the D7100 at first as well, until I saw them for real.
They're a beauty sitting on my desk here.
But Momentum and K550? I doesn't get much uglier and utilitarian than that for me.
Sorry,it does actually, LCD Vwhatever Rwhatever, but not by much.

Yep. The K500s and Momentum look classic. The D7100s look like another "ultrasleek" Apple store product targeting unsuspecting soccer moms.

Yes. The 7100 to me looks like they had about 15 cooks in the kitchen and they tried to squeeze in a little of each one's ideas.
K550 looks ok, not aggressively bad. Somewhat understated throwback look.
The Momentum looks awesome in my opinion. Classy, grown up. Like they achieved exactly what they meant with it. Ultimately none of this matters I guess, but do the 7100s really sound so much better than the 7000 to warrant their price?
I mean, the way the outer pieces take on so many different shapes make it look like an accident or like some some user mod where they slapped these coverings on the wood that don't fit or go at all.
