I went out and bought an AblePlanet noise-cancellation set today to see if I can make the drivers useful in something else.

I came across this thread because I have two of these phones - which I can only assume came with my Dad's 1993 Taurus - lying around unused and want to repair them; it's perfect for a DIY project, imho. They still work just fine, except for the ruined pads and the fact that the headband broke on the extender area on the left side on one of them. IOW, there is nothing wrong with the (super-long - maybe 6ft or more) cords or drivers on these at the same time. The phones are anything but crappy, imho - I mean the headband is cheap, but the sound signature, I promise you, is the same as the ksc75/portapro, and from what I can tell through the scratched off pads it might be the same driver. I actually prefer the sound from these over the ksc75 because the fit is snugger, but in any case think that explains why I like that sort of fun, sizzly sound so much - it's been with me for so long!
I'll be checking the DIY forums here for advice soon enough.
