Yeah i get what you are saying, as i was listening to my ie80's the night before. These seem to have a bit less then my pfe's with black filters. Still trying to get the best fit with these.  By the way which foam tips fit the R50's? And what other tips go well with these?

Sound Room = Sound quantity + Soundstage

The R-50 have a better soundstage than the Dsnuts' beloved ATH-CKS77.  However, the sound quantity is quite larger for the ATH-CKS77.  This makes the sound room of the ATH-CKS77 much larger than the sound room of the R-50.  Coming from the ATH-CKS77 to the R-50 requires an ear adjustment because of this difference.

The fact that the sound quantity is not high on the R-50 helps them to get a refined sound and a nice soundstage, something that I like a lot, just as much as the large sound quantity of the ATH-CKS77.  They are quite different and I like them both and every time I switch from one to the other it takes some listening time to adjust the ears to the second pair of IEMs.  Both IEMs sound bad when coming from the other ones.  More so the R-50 than the ATH-CKS77.

The ATH-CKS77 are everything that Dsnuts said they wereL3000.gif and the negative things that have been said about them, are also true confused_face_2.gif.  With 300+ hours of burn in, some of the weaknesses go away.  Besides this, I have 45 equalizer bands in my sound setup which helps a lot in improving the sound of those IEMs.

Do the R-50s improve with burn-in?

Thread Starter

I don't think they do.

Side note I got the other products they offer today (R-10, R-11, R-30, R-Shield) and from what I've heard so far the R-30 is nice and the R-Shield sound way better than I thought they would, very balanced and not bass heavy at all.  The R-10 and R-11 are pretty much what you'd think $20 IEM's would sound like, they're not bad but not that good either, I'll have more in depth reviews of all next week.

IEMs that use balanced armature drivers shouldn't need to 'burn in'.  I haven't heard any differences with any of mine over time.  I have noticed that I become more accustomed to a certain sound if I use the IEMs a lot.

Can anyone compare this against UE700? - I am so tempted to buy, UE700 being one of my favourite universal, so I would be keen on a comparison between the two

There are comparisons of the Gr01 and the ue700, the R50 is said to sound pretty much the same as the Gr01. So search around for the Gr01 comparisons.

OK swimsonny and technokid ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!! mad.gif

You have been holding out on us Head-Fi members...

I WANT R-SHIELD IMPRESSIONS STAT!

wink.gif

Seriously though an unboxing video is a good start but I would love to hear some impressions of how they sound. They look like tanks and have massive cables, so assuming the cables are not just for show and have decent strands in them may be a very interesting headphone. I may contact Rockit and see if I can review them but as of now your the only conduits of knowledge based on real experience here on head-Fi.

Use the "Search This Thread" function above and type "UE700" in the box and you will find comparisons in previous posts on this thread.

You have either forgotten that you bought these IEMs or you are posting on the wrong thread.  Here are your impressions on the R-50:

LOL I am referring to the R-shields not R-50 because the two people I mentioned have the R-Shield's in hand and I assume are working on reviews. I was hoping to cajole them into giving some impressions before their reviews.

I found UE 600s for $50 so they're on their way to me.  I'll do a comparison when I have them on hand.  However bear in mind that for $50 they're no longer playing in the same price range as the R-50s.

They are that price at the most obvious online retailer.

OK.

Since this is the R-50 thread and no one has been posting here about the R-SHIELDS, I was wondering what you were posting about.  I thought you were calling the R-50 a new name when saying "R-SHIELDS".
