I think the R-20 might be an excellent value also for $40 and I've always liked the Siren drivers sound as its has a warmer presentation.

Curiosity got the best of me and I ordered a pair of the R-50. I hope they end up being an excellent alternative to my Shures. But will certainly be posting comments one way or the other :-). I am going to have to have a clearing house sale pretty soon I think...

I don't think you will regret it. I find my pair of R-50 to be an excellent alternative to my W4's. Those two have pretty much become my main IEM's.

I look forward to hear your impressions.

I'm with JupiterKnight, you should really enjoy them and I look forward to hearing what you think about'em.

I think I've found my perfect set up for my beloved R-50.  I'm using a Sony pmp along with a FiiO E6 on the flat EQ setting with the Sony's Clear Bass up 1 notch but for some tracks and mixes 2 sounds better.  With this set up they sound nice and full and it add a little lushness to them with the detail still sounding perfect.  Also find the soundstage to have a bit more depth and the width is unchanged which is fine as they already sound relatively wide.

I'm considering getting the Sony A-series because of the new S-Master MX amplification which mine doesn't have plus I've read some great review on them.  In my opinion they have the best MP3 players as far as SQ goes more so than Cowon, Apple and Sansa.  Their players have a warmthness to them that make'em really nice to listen to.

Any one else with the R-50 I'd like to know what set up your using.

Update:

After I posted this next the day I thought about using my FiiO E6 with my J3 because I've never used the 2 together I thought it would be to warm of a sound as the J3 imo is already a warmer sounding pmp.  I got to say is was wrong the 2 plus the R-50 sound just as good as with the Sony.  So now I have 2 set ups that I really enjoy, I feel bad for my Fuze it not getting any love at the moment ;)

That's great to hear. BTW, I'm actually really glad that the R-50 sounds as good as the GR01. I was expecting otherwise, but this means that people will be getting a really great deal with the R-50.

The other thing is that it tells me perhaps VSONIC still has a few things to learn about BAs, considering it's their very first outing in the category. There is promise for both brands, however.

confirmed. the r-30 has a BK , so yes, same as the sba-03 (and probably the a161). for $70 doesnt seem bad)

Well I was all set about to get the R-20 but now that you've confirmed its the same driver as the DBA-03 I might just have to get the R-30 instead

It didn't surprise me that they sound similar after reading the other GR01 reviews but on the other hand I am somewhat surprised because like you said Vsonic should have more resources but this is their first outing with a BA.  Will see how they do with the GR09 which is said to be a 6 driver BA but that has to be 3 in each housing a 6 driver universal would have to be huge.

agree. i already tried a pair of SR, so the next step would be the BK. (also seems to be used on the Creative, and Westones)

Considering its the sba-03 retail is $130 I think these are another big saving for possibly similar performence levels. The A161 looks like a sba-03 clone housing and most probably driver so I wonder how competitively it will be priced to the R-30

A rep from MEE said the A161 should be priced around $120 so about the same as the DBA-03, I mean your right they're the exact same IEM just different colors.

So like Rockit Sounds they out source all there products as well but I wonder if they tell them how they should be tuned or is it the OEM factory just doing what they do.
