What is that? A 1970s (5G) Continental Town Car if I'm not mistaken? That's either a 400ci (6.6L) or 460ci (7.5L) V8, and yeah 5000lbs or thereabouts on the curb. The 1980s Town Car (dropped the Continental branding) was a much lighter and more efficient vehicle, especially after they introduced EFI for the Windsor engine (it's one of the first Ford engines to have EFI, and probably one of the first production vehicles (at least in the US) to have EFI). The 1990s redesign and later moved to the even smaller Mod V8 (which is actually more powerful), and it got "curvy" again. But I'd gladly take that big Continental over a pre-03 3G LTC.

The older cars that billybob posted are neat too, but I've never been that in love with the 1960s Continental - I like the big boat 5G better. I don't know, I like the 1960s car, but I like the 1970s or 1950s (5th and 3rd gen respectively) better.

I think the tag on the image when I found it in Google said 1970. I'd hate to be in a Smart car and get hit by that Lincoln!

Smart car will fit inside of the engine bay. That said, they're supposedly pretty safe little buggers. I don't want to personally test that though!

I meant to mention this earlier, but I did end up keeping the Mini-Maggie desktop speakers. Why? It's embarrassing, but with everything going on, I forgot to send them back. redface.gif Just as well though, when I swapped the old speakers back in I realized how much more I liked the Maggies. I fixed the focus issue too, by not toeing them in quite so much. This makes the sound a little more diffuse, but at the same time improves off-axis listening dramatically. Also, I use my old Sunfire 12" sub with them, to get all the bass below 40Hz, which is where their bass unit drops off, and the whole system is as tight as a drum, without any peaks and valleys. I still think the MM 3-piece setup is a little overpriced, it should be $1000 instead of $1500, but it's very good.


I want a 60s boat, personally I have a thing for the `64 Lincoln Continental, probably the factory suicide doors. This one is available for $32k, which surprises me because I thought they were more expensive than that. confused.gif

It is kind of weird that the 60s Continental seems to go for less than many 60s 2 door coupes that have much higher production numbers. I guess the coupes have the muscle car caché that really doesn't apply to the big boats.

I sent the guy an email, I'm going to try and get that one. Give it a nice detail, slap some real white-walls on there. That's ****ing bad-ass.

Yeah older Lincoln cars tend to be fairly priced; the 5G Town Coupes usually run in the mid 20s (which is probably about what they cost new), even though some of the Mustang or Gran Torino models from the same era can clear six figures. I still don't like the 4G Continental. I like the second car though, the Imperial.

The Mrs loves it, and it's just what I wanted for the collection, so I'm pitching. Been talking with the lady who owns it, and she's thinking about a $9500 offer (plus PP fees). I thought it was one of the ones with a push-button AT, but it isn't, it's on the column. confused_face.gif Oh well, it's still very nice. I have a feeling it'll be a new "classic", especially since the Old Man on Pawn Stars drives one and is giving them exposure.

Also, I'm thinking about this for wife's Xmas gift. It's a unique sculpture (well-known Steampunk style artist), 14" tall, and moves wings, head, and hoots when you wind it up.

Yeah, it's in the same theme, a clockwork owl. The price is a little... "Titanic". blink.gif

Haven't heard back from the woman on the Imperial, maybe I low-balled too far and she scurried away. She said she could go to $11000, but I was pushing it. I get caught up in haggling and go overboard at times.

If you guys are ever in LA, make a stop at the Petersen Automotive Museum. It's pretty cool - they have part of the museum that is permanent exhibits, and also some exhibits that change.

On the Northeast side of LA, off the I-5 in Sylmar, is the Nethercutt Colection. A very nice collection of ~50 really rare vehicles from the 1900s through the 1940s. Duesy, Talbot-Lago, Maybach, etc.

Farther up the coast, in a cr@ppy industrial park in Oxnard is a small car museum, the Murphy Auto Museum, that is only open limited hours on the weekends. There's only about 50 cars, but if you like Packards, this is a good spot:
