Magick: I know you've got the Caddy - but I think you need some classic American power in your collection. That Caddy is just GM's version of a European saloon car. I vote for some classic muscle - something between 1965 - 1974 and enough displacement to rattle the windows. I would take just about any of the old favorites: Challenger, Charger, GTO, Chevelle, Mustang, Cougar, etc, etc. Extra points for something interesting under the hood like a Tri-Power, 440 Six-Pack or Cobra Jet. I mean c'mon - even if you have always been a European sports car nut, I *know* you must still like the sound of the big V8's thumping pistons and the whoosh of the intake gulping air in giant bucketfuls.

I have to admit that I've never been a big American muscle car fan, except for the Shelby GT350s and 500s, I prefer the styling and handling of British and Euro cars. How about a Saleen S7, Ford GT-X1, or even a Shelby Cobra? wink.gif There's an Atom 3 up for sale on their site, and an Atom V8 on JamesList. $56k and $290k, respectively.



Edit: How about a nice Elanor replica with all the tricks and toys selling for $60,000, but with modern brakes, ind. suspension, and LSD?

Didn't see you'd mentioned Cobra before - those are sweet cars. Grew up around a few of them. Loud, fast, insane.

That Mas is cool, I noticed this up for sale at the coming Gooding auction too, `72 Mas Ghibli SS:



IMO, one of the 5 most beautiful autos of all time.

My very first thought on the muscle cars was an Eleanor or GT350, and I have also ALWAYS loved the styling of the Maseratae - so I suspect our tastes are very similar!

Hmm - let me guess another car that is in your top 5 most beautiful list:

Ferrari Daytona? Possibly the Spyder? (Maybe not, you don't seem to favor convertibles as much as I do)

So - here's a question. To me, the styling of the most beautiful cars tend to be very simple - the sweeping arcs of the roof line, hood, fenders and rear are very balanced and just make sense. Why is that so hard?? Why do some cars get it soooooo right and then there are those other cars that simply look horrible? Why are some of the most beautiful cars in the world 40 years old???

I don't quite follow your question, but I do know we differ pretty seriously in our definition of awesome looking cars. So maybe that's part of it (that you get different generations of designers who have different philosophies).

It's true, Piniferina tends to do it right, and a handful of others, but that's about it.

Indeed, but the values on them are skyrocketing. If there's one vintage Ferrari I'd buy, that's it. I still might do the "buy a wreck and restore" thing, though. That does 2 things; I get a nice car and it puts another beauty on the road. wink.gif
