The Stingray 'Vettes are by far my favorite era of the Corvettes. Much more power than the 1st gen, but more stylish than the 3rd gen.

Agreed, gotta love the split rear window they did, that may be my favorite car.I would love to go for a spin in a Zr1 some day though, my dad has a white c5 convertible, but it has about 600hp now, so i imagine it would be pretty similar. Let me tell ya, that is a fun car to drive. :)

Well, I can understand.  I saw what he went through, and how people came to him as if they were entitled to something.  For my part, all I can do is just be his friend the same way I always was.  It may not be all that compared to gobs of cash, but that's what I've got, so it'll have to do. 

 

 

Um yeah, you kinda were.  You don't use the words "smokin' hot blonde" to describe personality lemme tell ya.  But not in a dickish way, I understand.  More of the whole valiant romance thing I'd hazard a guess.

Okay, I can understand the need for the way to avoid a jinx.  Pretty sure all of us could tell though - in your mind, you already took ownership. 

 

 

I'd love a Delta Integrale but the market value of those things are insane.  Stratos kit car is pretty pricey as well - and notoriously unreliable.  I'm all over the place really.  Getting to that point in my start-up where the next 2-3 quarters are gonna start paying dividends, and so I've been doing a little mental shopping lately. 

 

 

Oh I'm sure the misses will keep that from ever happening...

Well it's not like those are cheap these days either. 

Exactly! A turbine works by drawing cold air through the compressor fan, then using the burners to add heat to the compressed air, then the hot compressed air moves through the turbine fan, turning the fan and the attached drive shaft. It's not compressing and igniting a fuel-air mixture like in a piston engine. As long as the fuel will ignite in the burner, the engine will run. Adding more fuel makes the air hotter, and that adds energy to the flow through the turbine fan, making the turbine spin faster. Since the turbine is also connected to the compressor, the compressor at the head end also turns faster.

If it burns, it's fuel! Aircraft use jet fuel in order to ensure a specific energy level per pound of fuel. Having a dependable and predictable burn is kind of important when you are at 40,000 ft...

By the way, the old Jet-A fuel is primarily kerosene.

If you weren't aware, there IS a V6 Challenger. It isn't "fast" but it's "peppy" (and beyond your average econo-box that can shoot up to 40 mph quick-ish). It's got enough grunt to tear down the highway, but not enough that you have to hate yourself for doing it - I think they get like 25-30 mpg (if I'm not driving, when my bud handed me the keys the thing went to about 14 mpg on the dash and we were stopping within an hour for gas, but c'mon, country roads man - you're s'posed to go fast!).

So you just kill your car slow and ruthless lol.

I've heard that Alfas do, but I don't know that for certain. I thought there was like this whole big stink about Alfas being selectively banned in the US too, which made parts a nightmare to find as they age, but I could be mistaken.

I either haven't seen that one or haven't seen that one in AGES (it sounds familiar so probably just haven't seen it in AGES). Will have to revisit.

Yeeesh. Then again, my grandma unloaded a '73 or '74 LeSabre hardtop within six or seven months of buying it to get a Toyota (at substantial loss), so I think unfortunately my family wins at this horrible competition.

lol. I already say that with my Lincoln - I figure it's close enough. I mean, you go back far enough, and Rolls-Royce was competing with Lincoln, not the other way 'round. Then we entered the 1980s and people started caring about things like efficiency and being able to park and turning radiuses and so on. Go figure.

That said, I saw some photos (looked pretty heavy on the CG) of a potential 2014 or thereabouts Town Car which looked absolutely gorgeous for what it was. But I actually like the new Lincoln styling (the MKT and the newest facelift Navitron are purdy imho).

I can 100% empathize with this, and I 100% wish I didn't have that life experience to let me make that statement. I think it was Eminem that said - "money is what makes a man act funny, money is the root of all evil, money'll make them same friends come back around, swearing that they was always down" - and unfortunately it's something I've seen played out far too many times.

Reminds me of a story I heard once about a guy who went out into nature, captured a bobcat, put it in a suitcase, and left it on the side of the road. He then proceeded to sit and watch people insane enough to come along and pick it up and open it trying to get some "free stuff" - that'll teach people to mess with things they shouldn't mess with!

I've honestly never met anyone who's a big Chrysler fan, beyond Ram trucks in recent years. I think it's that Chrysler just went so far downhill starting in the 1980s and only recently has started to turn it around, and I will say that all of the modern (within the last two or so years) Chrysler cars that I've driven or ridden, I've liked quite a lot. But stuff from the 1980s or 1990s - gag me.

I'm not a big fan of imports. I'm not "stuck up" where I won't ride in an import or won't own an import if that's my option, but I certainly preference Ford (ideally Mercury/Lincoln) or GM (ideally Chevy) over most non-American rides (especially Japanese cars). This isn't based on some sort of "huuur 'Merica" thing - I've seen enough Nissans, Toyotas, Hondas, etc blow up at 100k to fill a stadium parking lot; IME they just don't take the abuse that you can throw onto a Chevy or GMC or whatever. Plus the whole recall fiasco with Toyota and Honda (seriously, my cousin had a 1986 Toyota truck (basically the same truck that McFly has in BTTF, except if it had been used for work and had the bed chopped) and it had recall issues - are you kidding me? he unloaded it instead of having it fixed, but come on, that's just downright bad; but of course all you hear about is "Ford Pinto - American cars suck!").

But, as I've said before, I'm kind of a hypocrite - I'm nothing but impressed at the Lexus LS series and the engineering that goes into that car (year, after year), and the entire Land Cruiser product family as well. Go ahead and make Lexus fanboy jokes (most of the fanboys I tease are driving the IS or whatever other "Toyota Corolla with a bodykit"); I still think it's pretty cool that it can park itself. I remember sitting through a technical presentation (not by Lexus, I actually forget WHY I was there come to think of it - one of those random conference/presentation things you just find yourself at) and one of the presenters had done some engineering consultation with Lexus when they were working up to the current 600h (the big V12 hybrid with the CVT, adaptive cruise, lane-holding, self-parking, etc - the car that NHSTA/DOT won't let them import to the US because it's too smart), the punch-line was the car has more processing power than a 747-400 or the Space Shuttle (but I don't think it has the 7-8n roll-over interlock). On one hand that screams excess, but in it's own kind of geeky way, it's got some Tim Taylor "more power" streetcred too.

$400,000+ for a 12 second car. Good grief. Sure, they're probably fun, and I don't discount that, but...*sigh*...it's just yet another super-heavy super-expensive super-flashy 9000SUX Veblen Edition wannabe.

I thought it was a gas turbine, sort of like the M1 Abrams, where it has more compatibility with burning various flammable things.

Appears I'm not completely blanked yet:

So that means yes, it's more along the lines of the gas turbines that the Army uses to increase fuel compatibility for their vehicles (and if memory serves, Chrysler was developing this as an extension of a DoD/Dept of War project from the 1940s to put together such an engine, again, so they could burn whatever fuel they found).

I forget exactly what the reasoning is for why a gas turbine "sucks" (I know part of it is exhaust heat or heat in general) for normal use, but certainly it'd be awesome to have a car that could run on anything I feel like pouring into the tank (in any proportion I want), including kerosene, diesel, avgas, JP4, motor oil, etc. And yes I know there are Army trucks that can do this. But they're hideous.

I think the primary issue of the Chrysler turbine was the perfect storm of Chrysler's money troubles, the first talks of emission controls and the fairly new concern with fuel mileage. The turbine got decent mpg on the highway, but not in town. The engine needed to burn a considerable amount of fuel when going slow in order to keep the compressor turning. At speed, the incoming air was already moving.

The real shame was that Chrysler DESTROYED most of the prototype cars rather than selling them.

Kind of reminds me of the ev-1. so sad that they destory them all.

Makes sense enough to me, but I didn't design the YF-23.

Yeah. Just like GM with the EV1. I wonder if there's some insurancey reason they do this.
