I ordered it from Sunoco, it's their 260GT fuel. Completely street legal, albeit a little expensive.

Us Aussies get 98 everywhere.100 at a few selected places.

 

Did it make any difference to fuel efficiency though MM? Silly question but....

 

My car does change its ignition timing according to the fuel quality and runs best on 98.

 

If you,re feeling adventurous, try some Xylene or Toluene or Methanol.

The octane ratings are different in the States. We use the AKI (anti-knock index, (R+M)/2) rating on pumps, whereas in Europe, Oz, and Japan they use RON (Research Octane Number). So, when I say 93 octane, it's the AKI, which is the equivalent of 98 RON.

The misunderstanding is that higher octane fuels have "more energy", when in reality the higher number means they're harder to ignite. Pre-ignition is what you fight in a high performance engine, you want it to burn when it's supposed to burn, not before, to lessen the chance of engine knock, which can be very bad for high compression setups (causing damage).

Oh well, everyone may already know this, and if so, sorry about the lesson. wink.gif

Quite right. But at 400Gs it's going head-to-head with the likes of the Aventador and F12berlinetta, while offering the performance of a ZR-1. confused.gif In my mind, and the minds of hypercar shoppers (Paris Hilton excluded), it's much like bringing a knife to a gun fight. They see it as a plush GT-R, and that's not a good thing. Aston-Martin seems to be about the only car maker (and perhaps Bentley) that can wave off performance numbers and say "it's sexy, to hell with your calculator", everyone else has to work for it. wink.gif

A supercar....its a Lexus? Yeah. Right. Just doesn't work IMO, Lexus just doesn't have the pedigree. They're famous for making stuff my dad would buy.

 

And amen to the comment about Aston Martin. Everyone can be a James Bond when they're in one.

It's true. biggrin.gif I love my Vanquish S. It's a blunt instrument; sucks down gas, isn't particularly reliable, burbles and farts like a happy drunk when at idle, and is about as easy to drive in traffic as a bobsled (exaggerating), but it's awesome and sexy. For looks and sound there's nothing else like it in the world.

Mine is an `06, I think that's an `04. I had the gearbox changed to a 6-spd stick, ditching the paddles, and it hasn't broken on me yet. But, I've not taken it to the bleeding edge, and I'm smart enough to not do a full-on power dump at opposite lock, so maybe that's it. LOL!

BTW, she is my least favorite presenter on any car show, ever. There's just something about her that sets my teeth on edge, and it has nothing to do with gender.

Aye. But aren't most of the AM and Bentleys still under $400G? And they market them as Grand Tourers, not racing vehicles. But yeah I agree everyone else has to work for it - Ferrari even tries to compete with Bentley and AM in that regard (with the 456 and 612); kind of bizarre.

Kids are awesome. Our little girl has started to hand us things, like her toys or sippy cup, like they're gifts. Then we take it and say "thank you very much" and she laughs and claps her hands like it's the greatest thing ever, but later she reaches out and wants it back, and then it starts all over again. So essentially, we've been handing things back and forth all evening. It's amazingly cute.

Yeah, that's scary. lol It looks like McLaren's IRIS runs in Linux, though. I've seen a lot of people gripe about it, but I've not had any issues. I'd guess that Linux is powering most on-board computers now.

AM's 2-seaters are definitely "sports cars", but they do ride more on the spongy side of things. The Vanq has a very nice ride, not what I'd call stiff. I'd classify it as a gentleman's racer or luxury coupe, similar to the LFA but more attractive. The Mac is... I have no idea. Depending on what you set it on, it can be many things; tourer, track racer, luxury cruiser, or backroad hellion. It can wear many hats.

I think it's because she's so smug, she comes off as condescending.
