On the "steel weave & composite" - I think I have heard of "stainless steel weave" being used for pipe where some of the layers in the resin-impregnated sandwich are a stainless steel mesh instead of fiberglass. I'm guessing this adds additional strength over fiberglass, and it's probably heavier, but less expensive than using carbon fiber. Maybe it will be less likely to do this sort of thing if you get a low-speed bump.

Remember earlier in the thread when I talked about modern cars not having the beautiful style of the older cars? This is a good example. A simple design from 1965, yet it manages to effortlessly be both mean AND graceful at the same time. Yeah, the new cars might perform, but they don't do it with this kind of style. If I'm driving this on a Saturday afternoon, I really don't care about aerodynamics, top speed, skid pads or fuel mileage. I've got gobs of power & torque and I look goooood!

Well, we've decided there are too many solid black cars, so the Cobra is going to be repainted:

Just apply stripes:
British choice:
Iconic Shelby:

I'm leaning towards yellow w/ black or blue w/ white.

Yeah, after researching it seems that it's steel mesh impregnated fiberglass, which is more durable and rigid than regular fiberglass, with similar weight, but not as good as carbon fiber. Meh, seems like it'll be okay.

I think painting it is a good decision - I don't think black does the car justice. Another option would be to use a "race" scheme for the graphics:

I'm going to combine your ideas; have it painted a nice traditional Shelby theme (many, many coats, like glass), and then get some high quality race and 60s era product decals. And keep the wheels, since they're SC accurate, but have the spinners chromed. This will be rad. cool.gif Oh, and order a hard-top. I heard back from the former owner, who is very upset with Mecum over the price, they ignored his $45k reserve because he was late getting to the auction. It seems there's a clause in the contract that states that if the seller isn't present for the sale Mecum reserves the right to sell the car for whatever they deem appropriate. confused_face.gif Anyhow, he isn't mad at me, I don't believe. I was surprised to find out it has a heater.

Minor nit - I'm not wild about the light tan colored boots on the shifter and hand brake. They don't seem to match either the seats or the carpet. I guess it matches the leather strip at the top of the windshield? I'm not sure if a different color would be better or not.

I think it was to match the upholstery piping, but yeah it is too light. They're probably pretty easy to swap out, though.

That's a maxed out interior for a kit, however, and the steering wheel is an original Shelby. A buddy says it needs a supercharger, he's nuts. rolleyes.gif

Now that you've pointed it out, I too am annoyed by it. Didn't even notice it before. I'd either match to the carpet or black. But not that near-white leather.

Anywho, I vote blue with the GT stripes - it's just "right" for that car. The black/white would look nice too, but I think you're likely the only person in your area with such a car (Cobras being kind of rare and all), so you can be a little cliche. And it looks cool with the luxury style interior. smily_headphones1.gif

After watching that video, it occurs to me that Magick could spend all of his time hanging out with the different kooky car clubs. Monday is the AC Cobra Club, Tuesday is the Mopar Club, Wednesday is the Rolls Club, Thursday is the McLaren club, Friday is the NSX Club AND the Cadillac Club, Saturday is the Aston Martin Club AND the Porsche Club (Mrs. Magic also goes to the Ferrari Club) and Sunday is the Land Rover Club AND the MG Club (Mrs. M goes to the Isetta Club AND the Mini Club). I'm leaving out the VW Beetle Club because, quite frankly, those hippies are weird... tongue.gif

You are going to be quite busy. I understand all of the clubs require the new members to bring cupcakes to the first meeting - you better get to baking... wink.gif
