The BMW i8 in the wild!! It reminded me of a Nissan GT-R or an Audi R8. The scalloped rear roofline (wing?) was a bit odd - sort of like flying buttresses. tongue.gif It had A LOT of scalloped features on the body. The tires were also skinnier than I expected - not like (for example) the fat meats on the M5.

It had signs on each door and the tail that said "Hybrid Test Vehicle" and I could see instrumentation mounted on the dash. It had California Distributor plates.

I think it kinda looks like a fancy tennis shoe (or "trainer" for those not in the USA). That's not bad though, much better than the hideous i3. The skinny tires are probably for fuel econ, boo!

The worst part is the"i" nomenclature.
Seriously BMW, you couldn't find anything better.

I would suspect the skinnies are there to "cheat" on the fuel efficiency rating and will probably not be on the production model.

I agree on the name. Typical Teutonic creativity. "Ve have ze 330i, 535i und 750i. Ve vant someting new! Now ve have ze i3 and i8 Wunderbar!! Sehr gut!!" (Said in the voice of General Buchalter from Hogan's Heroes)

Maybe we'll get lucky and Apple will sue them over trademark:wink_face:

I believe that the production version has already been revealed (hence the lack of camo and the PR text on the side), but I could be wrong.

A long time ago I lived near Detroit, and I'd see prototypes pretty often.

I have seen several test vehicles over the years. Hwy 101 North from LA is a good little 200 mile round trip for journalists and the like. They can drive North along the ocean, stop in Santa Barbara to watch the waves and get a bite to eat, then head back to LA.

Hey Magick, I found a web site that has the perfect list of the best 2014 cars for you to buy...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/Feg/best/bestworstNF.shtml#least

Any list of cars the US Federal Gov't calls "the worst" MUST be excellent & fun cars to drive!

Except for the Camaro and the CTS, most are outside of the reach of average Joe. Fuel economy doesn't matter much at those price points anyways. Surprisingly the 650hp Mustang is missing as is the Corvette.

the bentley continental is a subcompact! I know a guy that has more money than he can spend. he got a 10 cylinder because the 12 cylinder "gets bad mpg" lol. I mean if you are buying a car that is multiples of six figures I don't gather how mpg really matters duh. I guess the caddy might matter to someone. since there are a lot of 70 grand cars that do get 25 mpg or so.

Newer Corvettes do well on the EPA mileage tests, because of the overdrive gears and light weight. If you drive them like they are meant to be driven, the mileage will suck.....but they can be driven in a  miserly fashion if you have no soul. :veryevil:

The Stingray also turns off 4 cylinders in Highway mode, and the automatic has that start/stop crap. tongue.gif

No manuals! Except for the Camaro, and maybe the DB9 and California (they both still list the stick as a special option). God, paddles are so boring... confused_face.gif

Those numbers are better than any of the BMW M cars.

I suspect Chevy & Ford spend a considerable amount of R&D figuring out how to score well on the EPA tests. Probably more than they spend on making the car handle well! tongue.gif
