An audiophile and petrolhead's journal: Buckle up! - Page 330

Tempting - but considering my recent funding of the California Highway Patrol budget deficit, I'm trying to keep a low profile on the audio purchases. Here's my new home theater audio system:

Word on the grapevine is that Mercedes IS going to build something very similar to the AMG Vision (a fictitious hypercar designed around the SLS chassis), but there's not going to be an actual production forecast. If you pay them money they'll hand-build build one for you, on a FCFS basis, with an order window limited to 90 days. What's so special about it? It has the same powertrain as the SLS, essentially, but they're adding a motor at each rear wheel that will be powered by a KERS-type system (but no batteries). They won't power the car on their own, but they will provide additional power, on-demand , to the tune of 500hp and 1000ft/lbs of torque. What does that mean for performance? They claim 0-62mph in 2.5s and 0-160 in 10s flat. The price? A cool 5M Euros.

Okay, this is just getting stupid.

I really like the side profile (minus the outrageous wheels).

What I really like is that the car oozes presence. Its incredible width and comical bulges make it look at home in a sci-fi movie. Pretty much like the GT by Citröen.

I don't care if it doesn't have the current Mercedes design language. I don't care if it doesn't look like a Mercedes at all because ultimately it's a fantasy car and also it's the ultimate expression of the designer's vision and it is absolutely breath taking.

Oh and what a lovely ass.

I had that same thought run through my head yesterday, but it wasn't anything to do with a car......rather the new 19-year-old waitress at work.

Why not get a car that is more low profile? Like a Subaru Legacy or something

As I have aptly demonstrated in a variety of cars and many times over the years, it's ain't the car that gets the ticket - it's the stupid sod behind the wheel.

Maybe its time to drive relatively safely? 70 instead of 75 in a 65 zone

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Damn I hope I never get a ticket :P Its fun being condescending. Now I know how Asian Parents feel

Yeah, I've collected 2 in the last year, myself. Both were away from my home area and I'm certain one was simply because the trooper wanted to give me crap about the car, "if you can't drive that thing within the speed limit then you should leave it at home". I was only doing 82 in a 70, geez. Right before he tagged me I was passed by an Audi doing at least 90. confused.gif I hate highway patrol, they're nothing more than armed revenue collectors.

Well then again........

About a hundred years ago I was coming home from an out of town job on THE major highway here. I had the Audio Coupe fairly well wound out to the point it would have been suspended license time. There was a Volvo well behind, using me for a radar screen. Out of the blue this unmarked Chev rolls up beside me (Tinted windows no chrome, too wide typres all around, oh ****, pursuit car!) down rolls the window and The Law just looks over at me pulls down the sunglasses and gives me the LOOK. I gave him the best oops sorry look I could muster and got off the throttle. He nodded and drove off. The Volvo had somehow managed to disappear from the road somehow.

Sometimes you get the bear.

In my experience, California law enforcement just don't do warnings. I always look in my mirror after being pulled over to see if he starts writing on the ticket before coming to talk to me. If they have started writing, you are done - and they nearly ALWAYS start writing as soon as they stop. I'm always VERY polite - I always keep both hands on the wheel as he approaches the car and I always tell them that my registration and insurance card is in my glove box before I reach for it. It never matters - they have no intention of giving warnings.

Jaguar straight-up ripped off the Tesla Model S, took off 2 doors, and called it the F-Type coupe. But I don't care, damn that's some sexy. eek.gif

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v80), quality = 90

I remember the first time seeing an F-Type Roadster in person; it was stunning.

Yup - saw one just the other day parked on Main St. I pointed at it and said to my wife: "One of those would be a good Christmas gift." Her response? The same thing she always says: "You already drive too fast." rolleyes.gif

Yet another reason to never get married...

She is making you save money  that way. Instead of getting caught at 15 over you could get caught at 30 over
