An audiophile and petrolhead's journal: Buckle up! - Page 186

Well, after fishing through all the comics, I'm disappointed. Key issues were missing (at one time he had a complete run of Batman and most of the major DC hero first appearances, now there are no Batmans below #15 and other key comics are gone. He'd obviously been fishing through them and selling them off, one at a time over the years, or he pulled them before bringing them. Still a nice collection, but it's largely high-quality filler and nothing too special. This bums me out. To make it worse, he was acting like he never had those other books, even though we'd talked about them and I'd even seen some of them before in his home. Yeah, he's trying to make me think I was imagining things. On top of that, he wanted the same amount of money. I knew something was up when I said to my comic helper, "it's time to get to work", and the seller said, "work on what?" I gave him a funny look, "we're going to look through all the boxes and see what's what". All he said was "oh". I mentioned before that I didn't fully trust him and it appears that my instincts were right. mad.gif I ended up offering him 1/3 of what we'd talked about, and that made him mad, but I don't care. I hate being intentionally mislead. We loaded them back in his truck and that was that, he can drive them all the way back to Florida or burn `em, I don't care which. Gah, I wasted most of a day with this. C'est la vie.

The DCS Vivaldi pushed it over the edge maybe?

It fell on the side. I have no idea how it happened.

I'm guessing it fell on the side?  wink.gif  biggrin.gif  Okay, so it didn't fall into whatever it was covering then?

Should've hung out playing 80's trivia with me.  Hehe, it's been a slow day...

Nah, I got that as a demo, secured with a CC, I haven't paid anything but shipping for it (I'm returning it later this week).

I'm just mad because I'd built up the comics deal in my head and then it turned out sour. Really pisses me off. mad.gif

BTW, for that school music program, I ended up buying them Koss UR-20s. I haven't heard them, but they're bound to be better than the disposable Sony on-ear things they were using before. Right?

In other news - I think this engine is cool, and I really don't give a darn where it is built - as long as it gets built. The fact that it has no valves or cylinder heads is really interesting.

Most likely yes, though there is a deal on the JVC HARX500 right now:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NV0SG2/

There's a new wrinkle to this... **Updated an hour ago*** He claims he "accidentally" forgot a box at home, that he'd separated some books out a couple years ago and put the rest in storage. So basically, there's a whole `nother box at his house in Pensacola that he'd "forgotten" about. rolleyes.gif Okay, let's suspend disbelief for just a moment. How stupid/irresponsible do you have to be to lose track of ~$500k of property that was part of your livelihood for over 30 years (his Detective 27, a CGC 6.5 UR, is worth $200-250k by itself)? His girlfriend is driving the box up, as we speak, to make this deal, but he's so sorry for the mixup/"misunderstanding". Jezus H Kryptonite, if I didn't want these so badly I'd tell him where he can stick `em. Why isn't he going to an auction house? I've asked myself the same question 100 times. I believe he doesn't want the sale traced, and it likely goes back to financial issues he had several years ago. I have no proof, and he claims it's because of the outrageous auction fees, but at that level you can shop the different houses and get a better rate. He isn't a moron, despite what he's trying to get me to believe. I'll just be happy when this is all over, it's giving me a migrane.

Those look a little delicate for 6-13 y/os, but maybe I'm wrong. redface.gif The one thing I liked about the UR-20s is that they appear to be pretty solid. I'm sure they'll be dropped and mishandled, so durability is a major concern. AAR, I ordered 30 of them for the class and they should be in tomorrow (I <3 Amazon Prime), so we'll see.

Wait he first tried to give you a dodgy deal and your still dealing with him? ask for a further discount. Get him to take it or leave it.

It is a similar concept to the Commer Knocker, I think it's actually a combination of the Commer Knocker and a PatOP engine.

PatOP (expand for better animation)
