IMO the UE900 sounded veiled and the W4 is boring tongue.gif But then again the SE535 isnt any better, its slow and a bit fake. what about the Fitear F111?

Looking at the Mecum page...lots of nice big American cars. biggrin.gif Also, is it me, or are there tons of repeats from the last one (like the Superbird didn't sell, and they've since ADDED a few more)? redface.gif

Anyways, I liked these:
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-150093&entryRow=477&lottype=car&startRow=465
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-155545&entryRow=326&lottype=car&startRow=321
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149587&entryRow=319&lottype=car&startRow=305
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149576&entryRow=312&lottype=car&startRow=305
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-154770&entryRow=128&lottype=car&startRow=113
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149123&entryRow=58&lottype=car&startRow=49 (who is Kathtreen Grayson? And why should I care?)
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149078&entryRow=29&lottype=car&startRow=17 (apparently she owned two, and this one looks like hell, at least on the inside)

There was also entirely too much "lowrider" trash, but the crown of lulz goes to this:
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149960&entryRow=657&lottype=car&startRow=657 (if it doesn't cost you anything, I'd be curious to know what they intend to start the bidding on this "art" for...rolleyes.gif)

And since you mentioned event cars:
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149850&entryRow=580&lottype=car&startRow=577 ("what does it do?")
http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=HA0413-149435&entryRow=216&lottype=car&startRow=209 (I'd love to know how one of the most mass-produced Rolls Royce vehicles ever is "one of a kind" though...)

That Jag is swanky btw. biggrin.gif

I forgot to mention that I was pleasantly surprised last Saturday by (of all things!) an oil change. I decided at the last minute that I really needed to get my oil changed, so I drove to a local Texaco Express Lube. They weren't very busy and I drove directly into the last open bay. A squad of technicians descended on the car like Ghengis Khan's Mongolian horde. There were 3 guys in the pit below the car and 2 guys on top. They had the oil & filter changed (with a Napa oil filter), checked all the fluids, changed my air filter, lubed a couple of spots under the car, put air in the tires, washed my windows and gave me a buyer's card for a free oil change after 15 visits - all in under 15 minutes. I shook the owner's hand and thanked him for a great show! Anyone who thinks it is impossible to run a business that gives great service should talk to that guy! cool.gif

Shame places like this stand out though - if you get my meaning. redface.gif

I should be, it underwent a full frame-off, nut and bolt resto last year. Which, unfortunately, hurts its value quite a bit (since these aren't rare, by any stretch of the imagination), but if it's cheap enough I'll get it for the cool factor. wink.gif

I ended up ordering the W4Rs ($429), since I couldn't get the one I wanted, as none of the import sites offered them.

Kathryn Grayson was an opera bigwig during the 40s and 50s, a great mezzo soprano, if memory serves. Nice Imperial, regardless. I'll likely check into it and request the service/restoration records (I've found out I can do that now, up to 10x /year, with their gold membership). The Porsche is cool, but I have the `74. That GT Contie is high on my list, as I believe it will sell pretty low, considering mileage (66k) and the need for some interior resto, which is very easy to do now (I'll get to that in a sec). Yeah, WTF is with all the low-riders? blink.gif Ah, it's in Houston, I understand now. We Hispanics love our low-low whips (except me, obviously I must be genetically defective).

On the interior deal, we're hiring a new interior/finishing dude, and moving up one of our part-timers to full mechanic status (handing out promotions and raises is much more fun than canning people). He passed his ASE master mechanic cert (at only 21), despite the office pool betting decidedly against him (I didn't, so I cleaned up). So, a big round of applause for Joy Ride (that's his shop nick). Yep, it's the guy who crashed my Cobra, but I'm quite proud of him, as he recently received his GED as well and will be enrolling in tech school this Fall. This is a 75% increase in pay for him, and full benefits, it's a substantial promotion. While everyone else calls me Chief, he calls me Pop, and I think it's kind of flattering (even though I act like it annoys me). wink.gif

That's a good thing!  I've already got a recommendation for enjoyment purposes, and that would be the Flat4.  What I'm actually looking for now are universals that are dead-ass neutral to have around as a reference.  And if that means boring (which is probably does tongue.gif), then it's on my list.  So far, I've got it narrowed down to the ER-4PT, W4, and a UE900.

I'm liking the Starliner action.  It's just unpretentiously cool.

Wow, that's some service billy!  They were done before you finished debating what you should do while you wait.

And what's with the detailing of the Lincolns?  Is that like a luxury brand or something?  tongue.gif  What do Mercury owners get, an ass-kicking?

Is it common enough that you'd simply putt around in it until it dies?  Or does it at least have some kind of collectible value to it?  As you know, I'm still considering a classic as a daily, but I'm just wondering at what point it becomes a waste to use it as a DD.

Wow, j-phonics are that rare?  I would, quite understandably, be very interested in what you think of them (the W4R I mean).  Holy carp, that's got more accessories than I know what to do with!  eek.gif

For Dead Ass Neutral IMO the W4 is better then the UE900.

Anyways Im about to go insane and get an HD600 someone stop me. The lack of sleep is making this worse

Yeah - I equate the tendency to call Westone's "boring" and "meh" to them being neutral sounding. Nothing stands out - so we call them boring.

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus.  Have you ever had a chance to hear an Ety?  Particularly an ER-4*[*]?

Nope, you should get it.  evil_smiley.gif  Look at it this way, there's a finite supply of them out there.  So if you don't get it, someone else will.  And that winds up leaving one less for you.  Are you really gonna let that happen?

It is somehow disturbing that when I read your "BTTF", I knew immediately what it meant. That bothers me...

Hey, there was NOTHING wrong with the 80s.

Except Culture Club and Europe (the band), god-awful groups.

We went clubbing tonight and, coincidentally, it was 80s night at the Wild Horse. Their 80s revival band did a quite enjoyable version of Relax by FGTH, and I got to wear a muscle shirt and leather pants (w/ boots). Awesome time. smily_headphones1.gif

In the 80s, I listened to the same bands I listened to in the 70s - some of them had new music (Aerosmith, Stones, Van Halen, ZZ Top, AC/DC, etc) and some didn't (Led Zep, Beatles, Who, etc) - and some had new music that I wasn't interested in, so I still listened to the older stuff (Yes, Genesis, Black Sabbath, etc). It's now 30 years later, and nothing has changed... redface.gif
