Next up for Magick's collection, perhaps?....(although it may not fit in the new garage)

You know, when you said that the car was going to the Chicago dealership, my first thought was that I hope the dealer isn't going to try to use it for a bit before they deliver it.

This story just confirms my belief that it doesn't matter whether a sales twit is selling $300K McLaren's, used Yugos or electronics at a Brooklyn camera store - they are all the same. They see you as nothing more than a mark and the source of next month's commission check. People in Sales deserve their reputations - and the only difference between the high-end and the low-end is the price of their shoes.

No, it was only 14 miles, the car still only has 55 miles on it. Since it hasn't been registered, and I've not signed the title, it's still new.

Personally, I'd take the tv/jacket whatever and I would pester them until they let me drive one of their f1s around my neighborhood...

Hey man - you're talkin' my language here. cool.gif

DuraStars are a lot of fun - and the CXT is derived from that. Just remember - you want the block heater unless you live in Texas!

Still. The "rage level" here being at beastmode makes sense. I mean it'd be one thing if you'd been on a waitlist for a generic car or something, or had test driven it and hadn't committed - but you've custom ordered this car to spec and they shouldn't be dicking around with it. Oh yeah, and the guy who test drove it (assuming we're talking about a serious buyer) is gonna get fed some story about how they can't sell the car he/she just drove, and they're gonna be equally torqued! Someone needs a swift kick in the pants - plain and simple.

I'm not sure what happened, but at least it's worked out amicably. They made good on their claims. It's just a good thing I stayed on top of it, otherwise it would have turned out badly. I won't buy anything else from them, but at least this has worked out. The jackets are nice, seem really durable. I'll hang the TV in the garage, when I get the chance. And the car... HHHHNNNGGGggg! Arrived all shiny in a nice McLaren fleece-lined car cover. I had to take on one quick spin with the Mrs, and I can already tell that it's wicked fast, plus shockingly comfortable. As in Bentley level comfort. blink.gif

The McIntosh MC60s arrived, don't know when I'll get to mess with them, though. Maybe later this week, hopefully.

Well at least their free baubles as a way of apologizing for almost selling the same car twice with no explanation have a high MSRP. redface.gif

I fail to see how that jacket relates to McLaren in any way, but whatever. I want to know more about this car cover honestly. tongue.gif

They have McLaren "swoosh" emblems on the buttons and zippers, and the liner has the McLaren logo. Not worth a grand, maybe half that, but they're very nice jackets. Will be a good driving jacket. The TV is like $3k, I think they were giving them away with new Maserati purchases during the holidays, so they likely have a few of those on-hand.

It's a black & red, fitted, nylon cover, with a fleece lining. It's a Coverking, and looks like these:

OK, my wife wins the award for coolest gift. She one of these for each of my kids and me:

Good for a few minutes of play time - can't control the thing worth a d@mn, trying to turn is a riot, it turns by just reversing the wheels on one side, and it will just spin in place like a top.

Nice on the cover. On the jackets - I doubt they pay a tenth of that to make them, but still nice freebies. Can't stand wearing a jacket to drive. redface.gif

Needs to be bigger, but best I could find:

Needs more backseat though. And I don't love the single-door "suicide" thing (and it's flying the wrong colors). But it's still a BAMF.

If you want to see a couple of classic 60's custom Mopars, watch two Annette Funicello movies: "Thunder Alley" and "Fireball 500".

Horrible movies, cool cars...

"Thunder Alley" has Annette and Fabio, with the Dodge "Thunder Charger"

"Fireball 500" has Annette, Fabian AND Frankie Avalon, with the "Fireball 500" Barracuda

I need a jacket (looks snazzy too). It's cold in a roadster in the Winter, despite what the crazy Brits will tell you. tongue.gif I'd drive with earmuffs too, if they didn't look so ridiculous.

Okay, finally getting around to posting some Xmas pics of the main gift from my wife:

It's pretty, if you ignore the hack job resto someone attempted with the glove box (will be fixed). It's not all original, it isn't even close to being all original, there's probably nothing original on this car except the frame (which is in great shape). LOL. It''s a `62, and it should have a 3.8l, it has a 4.2, which doesn't match (or the head either, it seems), neither does the transmission, which is a ZF 5-spd. Nor the seats, which we believe are from a Healey or old TVR (changing those). It has updated front and rear suspension; competition adj. coilover gas-filled shocks (Afco) in the back, with a Ford (!) 3.70 LSD, and a tricky multilink WB in the front. There's bigger discs all the way around and stainless exhaust. It has more grunt than a normal E-Type, 300-350bhp, and whoever rebuilt the engine earned their money, because it's very smooth through the revs and more "cammy" than stock, larger cam for sure, and there's modern ignition. Really not sure to make of it, entirely. Obviously someone built it to be, if not a DD, a regular driver, because it's better than any other XKE I've driven; stops better, handles much better (almost no body roll), and out accelerates them too. But there's no regard whatsoever to value. This is a car that could easily be worth over 100k, updated properly, but as it sits with all the mods and updates it's ~60k. At least the Mrs didn't get ripped off, she paid less than that, so I'm not upset at all. She's really proud of the buy and has no idea about its "issues", the seller didn't tell her and I'm not going to either. In no way would I want to burst her bubble. I'm happy with it, it's simply one of those head-scratchers that drops into the market. At least I won't feel bad when I add an EFI system, modern stereo, and new removable hardtop, or if anything goes boom. wink.gif The MP4 is here too, but haven't taken pics yet, but will do so and share them. It's been a little hectic with the holidays.

Another addition, not a gift but something I bought off ebay, is a pair of McIntosh MC60s:

Beautifully restored by a Mac tech in Memphis. I had ordered some Cary monoblocks, but they kept getting delayed. Then they wanted to act like it was my fault because I wanted a custom color, despite me paying a premium for it. rolleyes.gif So I cancelled. I still like Cary, my SLI-80 is great, but their CS leaves something to be desired. Really glad I did cancel, however, these MC60s are the cat's PJs, at less than half the price. I love their sound through the Wilsons, it's warm but not relaxed. There's a distinct crispness that adds definition, with tight, punchy mid bass. They're an awesome contrast to my SS MC402, which is more of a HT amp anyway. They look nice too, I just have to keep the baby away from them (very hot), because God knows she likes to investigate everything.

The original XKE was a fairly legitimate 130+ MPH car, and with a few minor tweaks could do 150 MPH (as long as you remembered to keep adding engine oil!) With the changes to the engine, tranny & rear-end, I wonder what that does to yours?

I would be happy to find out for you... tongue.gif
