Top Integra:

2000 Acura Integra Type-R - 0-60 mph: 6.1, Quarter mile: 14.6

512:

1992 Ferrari 512 TR - 0-60 mph: 4.6, Quarter mile: 12.7

A second and a half difference to 60 isn't huge, but it is noticeable. Looks, OTOH, are an entirely subjective thing, and I realize that, but... I have to go with the 512.

The Ferrari 456 Shooting Brake... I'll just put that in the same area as the 400, "cars that they never should have produced".

Sort of like this?

No - don't panic - I know it's not really a Ferrari... tongue.gif

I think there's only like ten of them in the world too. It beats the F90 for looks though; imho.

In the crappy news category, the guys rebuilding the DB6 blew up the tranny... on the dyno. frown.gif It can be rebuilt, but we're putting it away with some other replaced original parts, into storage, in case we ever want to restore it to an all-original build. Good news is that we're going to a new 5-spd close-ratio ZF to replace it. How in God's name did this happen? Well, a stock DB6 Vantage motor makes 325bhp and 290lb/ft of torque @4L displacement. This one is 4.3L, after enlarging and increasing the stroke, and it has larger Edelbrock racing cams, a lower Hemi-type cylinder head w/ domed pistons, stronger crank, stronger (yet lighter) alu alloy flywheel, new ignition system, and 40% more output from the rebuilt carbs. The new redline is @6500RPMs instead of 5700, and she now makes 455bhp and 412 torques, while being >10% more fuel efficient (estimate). They thought the old ZF tranny would handle it, they were told by long-time AM experts in the UK it would be okay, but they were all wrong.

Teaser...

Ouch. Well, at least you know the engine has plenty of torque!! I imagine it was something like this scene from the Landlord vs Beast fight in "Kung Fu Hustle"...

What bugs me is that they said "it'll handle 420lbs". Well, it's ancient and the engine output is 412. Maybe when it was as fresh as a Spring morning it could, but not now. I felt odd about it but they assured me it was okay, and now we've damaged a vintage/original ZF.

Not for a few more weeks, I'd say.

Man, that sucks.  I guess the silver lining here is that they found this out on the dyno - as opposed to you finding out off the line.

Hmm - you might want to be careful before you try to one up Ferrari by going to the race track. I'll see your Spoon and raise you LeMans... tongue.gif

A 1200hp 512 is serious business. You can make a 4cyl Honda fast, but a supercharged 12cyl Ferrari is a monster.

In the old days of IMSA there were two major classes - GTO (2.5L and larger) and GTU (under 2.5L). You would see the GTO cars go ripping by the GTU cars as soon as they hit the straights. In ~1982, I went to an IMSA race at Laguna Seca and sat right at the bottom of the famous Corkscrew section. My view looked pretty much like this video - except when I saw these cars they weren't considered "vintage" race cars and the drivers were all going much harder. We saw quite a few cars go off into the dirt. It was a GREAT day!
