Where to go from Shure SRH-940?

I love my Shure's but as anyone else I'm always on the hunt for exploring something new in this headphone jungle. I love the SRH-940 sound signature, but I wish they were a little more airy and maybe a tiny bit bassier. I don't want the mids to change. I like that forward in your face vocals, especially woman vocals. In some tracks I find the treble, not harsh, but sometimes too bright. So the treble could be a little smoother as well. What would you guys recommend? I want something high-end with a budget of 1000$-1500$.

Genres I mostly listen to: Jazz, Blues, Soul, Classical and Acoustic instrumental guitar

Appreciate all feedback...and thanks in advance.

1 word: orthos.

With a $1k+ budget, you should definitely take a tour of the High-End Audio neighbourhood.

The basic Stax 2170 system will give you a good taste of what electrostatics can do, and is a solid system in its own right. Amp's included already. If you want quality mids, air, and detail without harshness, electrostatics are generally the way to go. Most dynamics that try to be detailed do so by hyping up the highs, and will sound harsh at higher volumes. 'Stats are detailed to begin with, and can have detail and warmth effortlessly. Yes, I know I'm generalizing left and right, and maybe up and down too.

Very best,

I can get hold of HE-500 here in Sweden for about 6000SEK (about 750$). I've had the chance to listen to LCD-2's a couple of weeks ago. I didn't dislike them but the sound was to centered, not wide enough. And I have also read in many forums that these two cans sound pretty similar. Is that the case?

If you live in Stockholm, can't you just order the HE-500 from Akkelis Audio i Goteborg and listen to it, go to Reference Audio and compare it to the LCD-2?

Worst case it will cost you about 100SEK to ship the HE-500 back.

(I haven't heard  both but I've read that the HE-500 has a wider soundstage, don't quote me on that though.)
