Just bought the Onkyo A5VL at closed  out price from B&H to use it as a full size headphone amp.

Build quality is first rate. It weights hefty 22 lbs with 2 digital inputs ( 1 coaxial and 1 Toslink). This is not some run of the mill low end integrated amp from Onkyo.

It can drive both A+B speakers which I do not use currently. I am only interested in its DAC and its headphone out.

Right out of the box, this babe sounds smooth and does not have any digital nasty ,harsh sound. Vocal is sweet and huge. Treble is airy and smooth. Want bass? The Onkyo A 5 VL has plenty of bass even when the bass control is set at zero.

If you looking for some SS integrated amp that can be used as headphone amp, you owe it to yourself to check this baby out.

The matching sacd/cd player c-s5vl is something else too.I bought one on a close out thru amazon and I have to say it really sounds great.
The player benefitted from a fuse upgrade (I used ahifi tuning supreme fuse 2amp fast blow) .I would suggest you try a fuse upgrade in your amp I think you will find that it is a very worthwhile upgrade at a relatively reasonable price given the performance enhancement you will realize.Of course the fuse value will be different for an amplifier but check it out and try it.

Just got this, its an awesome product. It works better than Asus Xonar Essence One, Teac UD-H01 and Cambridge Audio Dacmagic Plus with my DT880's 600 Ohm. Plenty of power, much more than any of those dedicated dac/amps have, clean sound, working EQ, dual 24/192 DAC's, and its a more than capable speaker amp as well.
