Altmann Tera Player - Page 58

Thanks musicday. I can't imagine using 300ohms headphones any time soon as I've just purchased the v modas, I understand they are 32. So yeah, the tera player shouldn't have a problem. I'm quite eager to get started building up my library and and really experiencing good quality music. My experience is from my iMac or ipad or iPhone or MacBook (apple fan boy, and also work requirements)

The tera player seems ideal.. I have an iPhone and have never used any other os so I was reluctant from the outset when I was looking at the ibasso dx100. I'm used to the responsiveness of an iPhone 5 and another touchscreen device that isn't half as responsive would just annoy me. The tera player is solely for music play back and nothing else. The simplicity of it is what I love. Somebody compared it to an f1 in the last thread.. I totally agree it may be impractical to take shopping however on the track it performs like a boss.. And that where its important.

Some of the stuff you guys discuss is phenomenal. I admire the knowledge some of you have. But where I stand. I wouldn't want to get into it as its not my field.. But that doesn't mean I cannot enjoy what you guys enjoy.. So in some respect, I want to jump straight to the end product. The solution for all audiophiles (as the tera play has previously been dubbed). I've looked at the likes of the Hifimans and ibasso. It too complex. I want someone informed (such as Charles) to tell me what the best format is, bit rate, sample rate etc etc and that's what the tera player does and that's why I'm sold smily_headphones1.gif

I'm in the uk. Leeds to be more specific... I will need wait a while for my purchase but it will happen with a month or so.

While you are waiting, you might enjoy reading about the development and evolution of the Tera-Player here.

Does the production TP (still) have a pop noise during power on and off?

Well i am very happy with my Westone 4R and Tera Player. The pop noise on power on and off to are talking about i think is just normal, try to hear DX100..:)

And also i think depends what card you are using.I have no problems at all with Sandisk SDXC 64 Gb.

I for one have come around from an initial point of  skepticism to now having a bit of real interest in hearing the Terra player.

I just sold an S:flo 2 in favor of trying a Cowon J3. I like the J3, the battery life is exceptional and the UI design, once acclimated too, is a work of art. It's really effortless to use and an astounding player that I will keep ....

But regarding sonics? It is no where *near* as resolving as the S:flo 2 ... like going from Blu Ray to standard DVD; and yes, I regret selling that amazing player, the S:flo 2 ... and have already messaged the guy that I'd like to buy it back.

That said ...

I am beginning to realize that design and architecture really do make a huge difference in sound quality differences ...

So is there a way to demo the Terra player? Anybody in Houston have one? If so, message me so we can meet up ...

Also, I should say ... I spend some time reading the evolution of the Terra player ... specifically that bit of page where the designer discusses pong and goes through some fairly detailed design hurdle/details ... and not that I'm about to order one or anything ... but reading the guy's notes and what not ... I am a bit more pron to believing/buying in to the rhetoric after realizing he seems to know what he's doing technically ...

I really belive to myself that Charles really knowing what he was doing when he started to design, learn the about the ARM chip codding.

People don't want to belive how good the Tera Player sounds becouse of the price, and they don't like the screenless design and yes that does make a diffrence in the final output sound.

I am  affraid that i live far from you in London but i would let you listen to my Tera Player.

My audiophile search is over....maybe a higher end IEM?

So, are you saying that there is no particular power on/off noise (click, pop, thud), which I guess happens when the SD card is push in/out?

Also, is there any noise pluging or unpluging headphones when the player is on and volume not turned down?

With my modified PortaPro phones, which are quite sensitive, there is a slight click when inserting or removing the SD card. This click is no louder than the default startup volume setting. With my less sensitive phones and IEM's the click is less noticeable. In either case, it is minimal. In fact, to answer your question, even after hundreds of hours of listening, I had to try each step in order to accurately answer your questions!

There is no sound whatsoever when plugin in or unplugging phones of any sensitivity nor is there any sound when changing tracks, pausing, or restarting from pause.

I hope this information helps answer your questions.

Sorry but you cannot pause on the Tera Player. There is start and stop of the song also you cannor forward or rewind durring the songs playback.Yes there is no noticeble sound when you insert the card or you remove it.I have my Korta Pros wrapped up under the Christmas tree and i want to open them up tonight.I can't wait any longer as i found the Korta Pros and Tera Player a very good much and more confortable them my W4R.

I can understand no FF or RW but no Pause is genuinely inconvenient. I rarely wind my tunes but often pause them for a variety of reasons. Having to start over or move on is not that appealing, to me anyway.

I didn't like not having pause/play either on the Tera Player but believe me my friend when you listening to it you forget about it.Is like amoled vs lcd.You don't want to go back ro any ordinary sound once you hear this DAP created by Charles.

I considered the center button to be a pause button as it does pause the currently playing file. When resuming, lt does start from the beginning of the file that was playing rather than from the start of the file system as when first starting the player. Personally, I have not found this to be a problem, although some may feel otherwise.

That's called a stop button.wink_face.gif I get that sound rules over convenience on this player and everything is a compromise of sorts.

Pause is MUCH easier to implement than wind. Would be a nice addition at some point. For instance, I can see a music professional using this to listen to a performance without needing to downsample ahead of time. Simply pop in the wave master and the performer can hear what the engineers have done at his convenience. Pause would be a great way to show an engineer or fellow musician something without having him match against his stop watch (no screen) or by some not easily understood verbal musical description.

No pause, FFW or RW makes it a definite no for me as I have long vinyl rips. Far too many compromises on this player; I am less than convinced it is anything other than a FOTM being talked up on a couple of sites.
