Agreed, Waiting is the worst. But it's always worth it.

Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker here.  This product has got me excited about hurting my wallet again.  Vert, Rudolfs, smial1966 and HiFlight especially make it not easy to resist the temptation.

Sorry for not setting up a account in the past, I do not feel qualified to provide analytic details of the SQ.  I am just a music enthusiast that likes the sweet sounds that this hobby provides.  So I guess I am one to the target groups for the player as stated on the website.  And thanks to you all for your input as it provided me direction on what to purchase.

It is time to move on from the iRiver H120, H140, Sysconcept cable, IBasso D10, RSA SR-71, MicroDAC, etc.  The RSA SR-71 has less than 100 hours on it and is in excellent condition.  Not sure if you all recommend I sell it or hold on to it as it seem to be a classic?

I will pair this with Ultrasone Edition 9's that have less than 100 hours also.  I have ear issues so IEMS are not for I.

No other equipment like the DX100 has made me want to move on, but this one seems to do the trick and make it the end of a journey.

I imagine what Rudolfs had mentioned, that this is the holy grail.  It seems to have enough high-end portable SQ and the simple, yet elegant design makes it a bit future-proof.

For me, I just want to end the journey.  I'm tired to rockboxing this and that.  Android 2.x, 4.x.  I'm tired of D10, then D12.  I'm tired of HM-801, then oh, HM-902 will be out.  I'm tired of DX100, next year DX200.  Tired of amp here, CLAS there.  I just want this to come to an end and enjoy the music.  It seems like a never ending cycle, but I guess it is good for the Audio eco-system.  Eventually, the upgrades and add-ons will exceed the cost of the Tera Player in the long run.

For me, WAV is not an issue.  Should be easy to convert with XLD using the command-line scripts.  The UI is not as issue, and I actually quite prefer it.

For now, I am in the same boat as kenman345, just saving and trying to be patient.  Hopefully, around the holidays can pull the trigger.

Sorry for the rant, I just want a clean, portable, not transportable, that I can take on the road.  I like the ED9's since they are foldable and provide HQ Sound.  That is my goal, HQ Sound, small footprint.

I guess I have a question here.  Has anyone done a successful Bank Transfer to Charles?  I do not have PayPal.

Oh and HiFlight, you mentioned you were happy with V0?  What would you recommend for ED9's?  V0 or V1?  Kinda confused here.  I like to have more sound volume, but do not want to sacrifice quality in anyway.

If evolutionx provides further positives, will not know how to focus on tasks and patience.

Man I'm worried about you. It sounds like you're looking more for peace of mind than anything. I strongly suggest you read this thread.

My advice? Don't be a slave to the gear. Sell everything you have, buy a cheap Sansa Clip+ 8gb and a Hd25-1 II, leave this forum and just enjoy the music for the rest of your life.

There is ALWAYS going to be a new hype. The Tera Player will have a successor. Even if it's not made by Charles. This is a viscious circle based on marketing and consumerism. If you focus on the gear instead of the music you will never find equilibrium.

Thanks for your advice and worries.  Not looking for peace of mind, just finally found a DAP that fits what I am looking for.

Your issues with this player is price? Charles?

I think this a pretty solid player that will last and be enjoyed beyond the 5 year warranty period.  Of course, the price is a bit extreme, but if one can justify it, why be so cynical and spiteful about this product?  Do you own or have listened to this player?

If I asked this in the DX100 thread, I would not get the same response.  There is something about this player that gets people all riled up.

I do not go around the JDS Labs Objective2 thread, which you have in your inventory, and label that a new hype and something better will come along in the future.

It is was it is.  I do not like the viscious circle either, but I enjoy these products with my hard-earned money and more than satisfied with the decisions I have made regarding these purchases so far.

I know you are just looking out for more junior members, but some of us our just set in our ways and do not like to be scolded on how to make a decision.  I appreciate the advice and understand where you are coming from, but some of us are just eccentric and hard-headed.

I highly respect HiFlight's opinion on these audio matters.   Him and others that have both the Tera Player and DX100 prefer the Tera Player.  I think that says a lot.

So again, I appreciate the advice, but I am set in my ways and make my own decisions.

Cheers anyways.

Tera! You've understood me wrong or I haven't voiced my meaning well enough. :) I am not here to think for you. I meant no offense. I have no problem with Charles or the Tera Player. I am actually organizing a listening session with an owner to hear what the fuss is about. My previous message was specifically for you. The way you expressed your question made me think that you might have lost track of what it's actually about in our hobby. The music! :) You can replace the Tera Player for every other boutique audio item and my opinion still stands. If you worry that you have to keep upgrading and need the perfect item for peace of mind, I think you're giving yourself a lot of stress. I came to this conclusion when you wrote this, which came across as almost desperate:

I also am trying to end the upgrades. I am not saying it as a means to say  havent enjoyed my audio. I absolutely love enjoying my music with my portable rig. I also just know I am in college now so i have the spare money due to my low living costs (I live at home). I rather just have the best, since I already feel I have some of the best CIEM's around, and be happy I had the money to do so while I can. If you read my review of the Aurisonics AS-2's (Link in sig), you'd see that I definitely havent forgotten to enjoy the music. I just have been able to hear and own an amazing pair of CIEMs and I'm looking to push them to the extreme.

Reading over the development of the device, I feel inspired to try new things (I'm a computer science major in college). He's a technical genius in his execution, doesn't take an owner to know he's got some serious skills and commitment to audio. I would happily give someone that inspires me money when I can, and it just so happens I plan to. I've talked to Charles a bit in the past, I wish he didnt live so far from me cause I would love to meet the guy.

My CIEM's dont sound good to me unless using lossless, so a player like this should suit me well. Also, I plan to get wholesale packs of SD cards so I can have an SD card of 1-3? albums on it, and one or two large capacity ones filled with larger amounts of music. I think I can get 1gb SD cards or 1gb microSD cards for 3-5 bucks a pop, I've been giving it some thought and really am considering doing this so I have multiple copies of all my music floating around. Also would help while I get used to navigating. I find at any given moment I'm looking to hear a few select albums and like to float to others as I go through my favorites.

I have been on this site for almost a decade, so no desperation to upgrade or make any new purchases.  I have been using the iRiver for almost that long and happy with that until something compelled me to move on from that wonderful system that I found via this site.  So that was 7 years or so ago, with a new amp or two in the mix.  I would hold on another 7 years with the same system if something never came along that interest me.  This interest me, so I thought I post as others having been chiming in and showing support for the player.

No worries.  I am just not one of you, I just like straight-forward Q&A on specific products.  I know people on this site are very helpful and like to hold people's hand through the process.  I am in no need of that.

It is like walking into a designer boutique store...

Customer:  Hi, I am interested in the Tera Player.

Store Person:  May I interest you in a Sansa Player?

Customer:  No, I have questions regarding the Tera Player...

Store Person:  Well, my philosophy about Audio is....

Manager:  Well said, well said.

Customer:  Please, can you just tell me about the Tera Player?

Store Person:  Oh, he must be stressed and desperate

It is nothing personal, just like it would not be with the Store Person.

Not interested in Audiophile purchasing philosophies or Psychoanalysis.

I am though, interested in your review once you get a chance to listen.  I really look forward to your opinion on this matter, but the other stuff goes over my head.  I have a high appreciation for those that do reviews.  I am just a music enthusiast, would not know the first thing on how to conduct a review.

You might want to read some reviews of his other products down at the bottom of this page before reviewing the TP:

http://www.mother-of-tone.com/attraction.htm

I think he uses some of the same parts as the Tera Player.  I am not an Audio person, so this goes way over my head.

Thanks for your understanding.  Just interested in Tera Player product itself.

I think we are in the same boat.  You and a few others inspired me to create an account here and show support for this player.  I too have to save and be patient for this device, but in the end, it should be a worthwhile investment.  Yes, I don't know where that 'just enjoy the music' stuff comes from.  Of course, we are all enjoying the music, otherwise we would not waste time and money here.  The TP should be another step up or two to enjoy that music even more.  I'll take a read at your review when time permits.  Though, it pains me I cannot use my CIEMs because of ear issues.

Yes, that stuff in Assembly is off the hook.  He lays it out there for all to see, yes, inspirational.

I plan on Albums @Home and favorites singles on the road.  But it is very flexible so who knows.

It is pretty sick that I downloaded the manual and started mentally navigating already.

I'm glad I can also inspire you. Why can't you use your CIEM's?

I read an old post of Charles' about the natural and essential progression of upgrades and such that he seemed to feel necessary to being able to understand all the Tera Player has to offer. I think my AS-2's helped skip a few leaps. I think when people also get their hands on them they will find the same things I have, which is that low quality mp3's or other files of low quality sound like putting 96kbps mp3's through a multi thousand dollar speaker system and the file just being torn apart it as its not giving enough information to the drivers to reproduce the sound like it should. I pretty much go for lossless only, and while I have downloaded albums off the web in the past, I rather buy the CD or from a site with extremely high quality as I feel I can hear the difference between what others say is high quality on the web and what I get from as original and quality fueled source (CD or online stores) as possible. I've bought a few albums at least 5 times because of my venture for higher and higher quality.

When I eventually get the Tera Player, I plan on enjoying it to its fullest, and after a month or two, will start my review. I like being very familiar with a device before I review or attempt to review it. I currently have only started writing reviews, so I am working on reviewing the gear I have and getting my process figured out before I review gear for companies where I have a limited amount of time with the item. my 240gb diyMod should be shipping to me today, very excited to hear that next bump in audio quality. Got a burn in station ready to go for it to be burnt in to the extreme. Testing it out right now as I burn in a new LOD. I can't wait till I have saved up enough to be able to sell some of my extra gear I dont need that will put me over the edge financially to purchase the Tera Player. I figure once i am set with the diyMod rig anything I dont need can be sold and used to finance such a large purchase. Kinda wish the Stealth model didn't cost so much more, would be cool.

I have a few DIY ideas for my Tera Player when I get it. Through all my audiophile adventures in the past year I have met some amazing people and I am pretty sure I am able to produce myself or get help from people in the community with advice and help in order to make some nifty things for the player. One idea is make a clip on attachment for the device that makes it into a watch with a thin Digital display to protect the front of the tera player. It actually might be a cheap watch in total, if you consider what else is out there in terms of watches.

Interesting that audio nervosa was brought up. The Tera is the cure for that, as you quickly forget about gear as soon as you hear it.

I don't know if there is a better portable DAP out there, and I haven't cared since picking up this little player.

Everybody here is sick, sick, sick.  I luv it.

If you have time, can you read the review on the Attraction DAC?

http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0506/zero_oversampling_dac.htm

Specifically, the last section titled "The Truth Changes Everything".

Since he is the designer and if similar parts are used, I wonder if any part of the review translates on how you feel about this product?

Google Translate does not work well here:

Can you read Japanese or have someone read it to you?

It is not important, it just seems like a lot of comparing to other players.

But maybe there is some tidbit to take from this review.

Or you can take a trip to:

Maybe they have a demo...

All these links are on the TP Review website.
