Sooner or later we will see a post from you comparing the Anniversary Ed. and Tera!!

Will you be loaning me your unit? ;) lol

I'm really starting to contemplate selling my Pico Slim. Haven't even picked up my iPod since I got my Tera Player. I just can't decide if I still need that rig intact as a backup. I think I may just go with my FiiO E17 I have since it's worth less but also does a decent job and I need the treble boost for the AS-1's I'm waiting on. This would be a nice amount to get back.

I guess that about sums up my feelings on the Tera Player. So good I dont even use anything else anymore and it's only been a week. I'm really happy with my purchase. Still gonna keep my iPod though for when I have less easily amused friends in my car and we want most of my music collection easily available. It's a bit difficult to get someone to swap out a card.

Well, I'm not a very clear 'thinker ';-)

re-reding my post left me less than satisfied, therefore I eliminated it.

I said that Tera Player makes me think of Starck's Juicy Salif, etc., etc.

I should have rather compared it to La Pavoni Europiccola or Lotus 7:

It is about being built for specific purpose, and neglecting not only superfluous features, but also some creature comforts. But doing that for a practical reasons, not just for style (as is the case of Juicy Salif).

Choosing Tera Player may indeed be a 'philosophical' issue:

the person writing this sleeps on a tatami and a rather thin futon, and swears by them (on the other hand, I've got enough UK 8 1/2 size footwear to outfit a centipede, so I am quite far from ascetic); if it is a holy grail among DAPs, then just FOR ME. It checked almost all my boxes (quirky random play remains a minor niggle), but for quite a few people it will not be the case.

It is all about trade offs - for me DX100 with its reported firmware concerns, considerably bigger size and cumbersome warranty in the EU (probably not needed, but still...) is less appealing, but for others it will be a better choice, for smb. else it may be HiFiMan 801 (which I considered before spotting T-P), and for some - an iPhone: for it is no slouch, and you do not miss your calls that way.

Based on Charles's explanation of how random play is implemented, I am guessing that the way my folders are consstructed is the reason for the somewhat "un-random" random play.

Some of my folders have only one track, whereas others have many tracks. I have also labelled my folders by Album title rather than Artists. On the Tera, Album is below Artist in the labeling scheme. At any rate, this is a very small nit that doesn't really interfere that much with my enjoyment of the random play option.

Can any other owners report back to me on this? I seem to constantly have whatever the last song I listened to on the Tera Player stuck in my head for the last few days. Good news is it changes after each listening session. Bad News.....sometimes I forget and I have awkward lyrics stuck in my head because I forgot to listen to something less awkward before ending my listening session.

This is a serious issue with the Tera, but can be avoided by not ending your listening session! biggrin.gif

Unfortunately I have to stop usually. I work at a computer repair shop on a college campus and today is move in day for freshman. Can't have music on. But I do tend to have longer listening sessions with the T-P more than any other device i've used.

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to say this time that I think the word, "Infectious" should be a more common place term for sound. The Tera Player could make everyone a believer in this property. I am absolutely loving music no matter how i listen to it. My HD 429's which I used to hate sound quite nice and smooth with the Tera Player. Can't wait to pick up a pair of PortaPro's

I would like to raise some questions on two headphone outputs of Tera Player.

First I heard the difference, then I thought I'm imagining things, but now, after a longer time on middle jack, I tried the side one and it appears there is a difference. This almost asks for a double blind test...

In earlier communication with Charles it did not become clear whether there really is a difference (you never know whether he is joking or not, and I did not press the issue).

It would be interesting to measure the out put impedance of both jacks - and check if indeed the outputs are independent.

Does anybody has the equipment and the will to do this?

My DX100 sounds different from the full-size headphone jack to its 3.5 jack. The 3.5 jack sounds more intimate, the sound staging is smaller. On the full-size jack the sound stage is more spacious, separation also seems better. I tend to put the gain on medium to bring things a tad closer through the big jack.

Did someone say they had trouble with HDTracks music? Have they found a way around it? I am really wanting to hit "Purchase" on a 24/192 Hotel California.....

Hi kenman345, you can try using XLD (X Lossless Decoder) to decode to WAV.  So far it works fine for me.

Seems 24/192 Hotel California is having trouble with playback. Already did that. Weird. It's giving me the same weird noise as the first time I had issues with 24/192 with that weird card originally. Gonna try the same card I have working for my DSOTM 24/192...Will report back when I can try it

My HD tracks are mostly 24/96 and probably issues are with the 24/192.   Cheers.
