To me this is threatening! Anyway who died and made you a MOD? Also, having just plowed through a number of posts by skamp I would say he is the confrontational and argumentative one. If he can't take what he dishes out...

That part is. And how should I know he is locked from this thread? Like I said I don't know why he should be locked out. I'm pro freedom of speech.

This thread really serves no purpose anymore. People either buy into the Tera Player mystique or they don't....simple as that. There is a separate Tera Player Owner's Appreciation thread, IIRC.

I stated that so the MODS would know I won't bring it up again. If you don't like it, so be it,...it is what it is. He is his own man, I condone nor condemn him. I only stated MY stance on the matter.

Have a fantastic day,...enjoy the music!!! cool.gif

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. Have a good one yourself

I'm disappointed that Skamp's compare thread was closed. I wonder if Chucky feels the same way about USB DACs as I do. My results for that test was a clear winner for the original file followed by the clip+ and Ipod over the Galaxy and USB DACs. I have always found too much grunge in most (not all) USB DAC configs and I guess it still works that way for me.

I'm really surprised that more 'listeners' didn't participate.

I have to admit that as a straight forward player, this player is more interesting to me than at first. Seems it would be great fun and from everything I keep reading, and I don't care about charts, excellent to hear.

"C’est le ton qui fait la musique." And we could not hear that.  Thanks, that clears it up.

Not trying to argue about if he should or shouldn't be allowed in here, but while Skamps actions in seeking measurements was quite direct and annoying (to me) at times, he did bring up a point of consideration that the measurements can help. As Charles pointed out from the posts about measurements of that Zanden DAC, while on the outside some of the measurements looked bad, others helped him get a better idea about certain aspects.

Having measurements in the public eye bring up two major predicaments, if they are good then everyone will still call it ridiculously priced, if they're bad, everyone will call us crazy and complain about the price. And then their will be those that completely misinterpret the information or just extrapolates information from what they see and have read but not heard and understood for themselves.

Charles has said on a few occasions about how the Tera Player is a means to an end. In order to fully appreciate the full glory of the Tera Player, one needs to go through the steps of trying out other portable gear until their upgrades bring them to the ultimate bliss, which may or may not be the Tera Player for everyone. I think for this reason Charles is okay with not publishing measurements because only the most dedicated audio enthusiasts that have gone through the bulky rigs with tons of cables and wristbands holding together devices will fully appreciate the work he's done and see the benefit of some of the ways he went about making this device and the audio it produces. Finding the right gear is a subjective journey and while some objective data may be useful to help guide you, in the end it's gonna be your ears you trust the most.

Happy listening everyone.

Good point, kenman. To a certain faction, anything above bargain basement pricing will always be downtrodden. It's a lose, lose regardless of how it measures. It either doesn't measure well enough for them or they fall back on  'rip off' if it does. I'll take sound over measurements because it's harder to make something sing but to be honest, they are not mutually exclusive and I prefer having reasonably good #s. I guess reasonably good is relative but I'm not that demanding.

You can look at the previous link to a DAC that measured poorly in some aspects yet sounded VG to a reviewer. We don't know that in a different system that those artifacts won't cause other components stress. The Tera doesn't have that sort of severe artifacting if like his seperate DAC and is more or less a stand alone here anyway so it wouldn't concern me.

I've heard his home dac and it's smooth and musical, very non digital but not my personal fav. I'd still take it over most that may measure better for redbook res. I do prefer HiRes but that's even harder to get right.

 Charles, I was looking at your review links and couldn't help but laugh out loud at;

LECK MICH AM *RSCH!!! I remember that phrase form my formative years.beerchug.gif

This is not an intelligent argument. A high priced player certainly should measure well in those qualities related to sound quality; that you don't understand how to relate measurements to sq is your own failing and nothing else.

If a player's measurements show severe problems and a group of people who have bought it at a silly price say "No, it sounds great!" then certainly other people will suspect that the buyers are far from the golden eared elite they like to imagine themselves as, and in fact have been duped. As for how likely this is compared to magic players that test badly and sound great, well, history is on the sound of "You got burned":

As for "falling back on ripoff" - this makes no sense; it's just a semi-illiterate cop out. The ripoff is when a player tests and sounds bad.

You can look at the previous link to a DAC that measured poorly in some aspects yet sounded VG to a reviewer.

There are millions of idiots on the Internet; that you can find one person to say a DAC sounds "VG" means nothing. You can find literally thousands of people who say that Elvis is still alive and the millions that say that Ron L. Hubbard was a messiah - do you believe these things?
